I bought a 82 Chevy truck and I put a 1978 350 c10 700r motor on it but it wont shift gears idk what's wrong with it please help me on what might be the problem

If I was by my self and I was you, "I would block the wheels so it would not roll, also apply the emergency brake, or put the truck on jack stands." Then I would get under the vehicle while it's running and shift the transmission lever by hand to check and see if the tranny engages. If you do not have enough fluid in the transmission it will not engage either.

It won't shift like with the shifter? Or won't shift like it's stuck in 1st gear? Or the lever moves but won't pull. Please elaborate

It stays on first gear the whole time

Is the TV cable adjusted right? if so the governor might be bad

I checked n it was the damn transmission filter lil by lil is shiftin not like before

There's also a knock on top of the motor any know what might that be
