Automatic gearbox

I have a Shogun (pajero) warrior sport from 2007 its automatic . But there is
something wrong while im driving all of a sudden it is in N and D at the same
time and it doesnt move i have to put it in N and back in D again. Mechanic
doesnt have a clue.
Any ideas????

Mine had the same issue on a long trip. After getting some hints on the internet I removed the input shaft sensor (on left front side of GB next to GB dipstick), wiped it clean (not because I could see any dirt but because the articles I read said so!) and re-installed it. The problem disappeared and I could get home. It is a very easy job. The cover at the bottom takes longer to remove and re-install. The question remains: what is the root cause? IMO it is the connector pins on the loom to the sensor rather than the sealed plastic sensor itself. The loom to the sensor is very short.
