2016 INFINITI Q70 Overview

If you're looking for a downright sexy flagship luxury car, take a look at the Infiniti Q70. Sure, it might not be quite as famous as its rivals from England and Germany, but it doesn't need to be—the Q70 is that kid who's cool and knows it. It's cool, it's stylish, and it doesn't need any other validation.

So what makes it so cool? Its looks, first and foremost. Take one look at the Q70 and imagine cruising on a coastal highway, the windows down and sunroof open, blasting whatever band will be the next big thing. That's saying quite a lot for a 5-passenger sedan with 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space. Infiniti really nailed the Q70's design—the sedan is both sleek and different, two traits of any good luxury flagship.

Start it up and the good news keeps coming. While the Q70 isn't going to set records at the Nürburgring any time soon, you won't be disappointed with the power it offers (you'll be able to hit 60 mph in 5.6 seconds). Under the hood, you'll get your choice of a 3.7-liter 6-cylinder engine pumping out 330 hp or a 5.6-liter 8-cylinder engine producing 420 hp. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and can power either the rear wheels or all four, depending on whether you choose rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Opt for the 3.7-liter and you can expect to see fuel efficiency numbers of about 18 mpg city/26 highway/21 combined with RWD and 18/24/20 with AWD. The 5.6-liter will register approximately 16/24/19 with RWD and 16/23/18 with AWD.

Jump in at the base level with the 3.7 (which comes with the 3.7-liter engine) and you'll get one of the swankiest "base" cars around. The 3.7 is a RWD version of the Q70 and boasts standard leatherette seats, Japanese Ash wood trim, 10-way power front seats, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a USB port, driver's seat memory, a 7-inch display, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Optional equipment is bundled into a number of packages, some of which offer goodies like an 8-inch display with navigation, leather seats, a 360-degree camera, parking sonar, a Bose sound system, sport brakes, and a rear spoiler. On the safety side of things, a backup camera is standard, as are brake assist, 4-wheel antilock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic traction control, front-seat active head restraints, and Infiniti's Active Airbag System, which adjusts the airbag inflation rate in response to collision factors. If you'd like to add more safety tech, the Technology Package includes blind-spot monitoring, active cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and forward emergency braking.

If you like all the 3.7 has to offer but want an AWD car, Infiniti has you covered. Simply take a look at the 3.7 AWD—it offers everything the 3.7 does with the additional convenience of AWD.

Those in search of a range-topper will want to take a look at the 5.6 and 5.6 AWD. The 5.6 offers all the 3.7 does, plus leather seats, heated and cooled front seats, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, an 8-inch display with navigation, a 360-degree camera, and parking sonar. Available option packages for the 5.6 include the Deluxe Touring Package, Sport Package 5.6, Technology Package, Performance Tire and Wheel Package, and Premium Select Edition. Each offers plethora of new goodies, some of which include aluminum interior trim, 20-inch alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension, a power rear sunshade, and White Ash silver-powdered wood trim.

All in all, the Q70 is a great-looking luxury sedan that offers a wide variety of various options for you to choose from. It's sleek, sexy, and powerful—at least enough to put a real smile on your face when you punch it. For those looking away from the German and English luxury kingpins, the Q70 could be a great choice.
