Why Did We Wait So Long? —

We recently purchased a black-on-black 2013 ML350 with 1200 miles and we couldn't be happier. We traded-in a 2009 Lincoln Navigator, which when we purchased it was perfect for our growing family, but recently had become much to big and expensive. We had compared all the usual suspects and thought they we need to stay with a vehicle that included a third row. It wasn't until we test drove the ML at a local dealership that we realized that we used the third row maybe 4 times the whole year, so while it's a nice to have, it wasn't going to be a necessity anymore. We ended up narrowing our choices to the Volvo xc90, the new Infinit JX and the ML350. After driving both the Infiniti and the Volvo we soon realized that it wasn't even close. The build, the ride and interior finishes on the ML350 blew away the other two vehicles, so we quickly focused our search on a used 2012 ML350 with less than 10k in miles. We found 3 vehicles that fit our criteria, one in Ma and two in NJ. Two of the three were loaded 2012 models in the steel gray with black interior, the third was a 2013 black-on-black with limited options, but only 1200n miles. I quickly called both dealerships about the availability of the 2012's, but both had gone under deposit that afternoon. Disappointed and feeling like we missed on two really good deals, I took one more look at the 2013. Based on the mileage and the price, it was a really good deal, so we made an appointment, put the car on hold and drove down the next Saturday to finalize everything. The car was beautiful and we bought it right on the spot. We didn't take delivery until the following week because we had them install a wood steering wheel and rear dvd entertainment. The dealership actually drove the car to us in CT and took the Navigator back with them. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the vehicle. The interior finish is top notch, the ride quality is smooth and responsive and the overall comfort is terrific. There is only one problem with the vehicle... it has converted my wife into a Mercedes only driver, so I see upgrades and more expensive models in my future!

Pros: smooth quiet ride, extremely comfortable with supportive front seats, stylish and nimble

Cons: limited cargo space

2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC Review
Viking1947 says:
This car feels much heavier and though the specs say it has about 60 more HP, the added weight eliminates any advantage. The way the back seats fold down decreases the flat floor area by 8 or 10 inches over the previous model. The road clearance is much reduced over what the previous model had and I use every bit of that clearance in my normal driving on mountain roads, snow and sometimes off-road driving. A fatal flaw for me in this model. Its a nice car with the fit and finish to be expected of Mercedes and if all you want is a car for errands to the store, vacations with the family and trips to the mall, go for it. If you want a real SUV, this car will not work for you.

Power Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"This opinion is subjective: The newer car feels bulky and a bit sluggish over the smaller and tighter older model."
Handling Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC worse.
"The older model is noticeably lighter and feels better on bad roads."
Looks/Style Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"Less plastic on the older model."
Front Seats Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"The seats seem a bit plusher on the newer model. A minor difference and again, this is subjective."
Back Seats Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"The way the back seats fold down in the 2013 model take away 8 or 10 inches of flat floor area over what the 2003 model has."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"See above"
Value Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"Why would a manufacturer make an SUV with the road clearance of a sedan? The newer models are billed as SUVs but simply are not. A great car to drive to the mall, granted, but NOT a SUV."
Would Buy Ranked 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 350 4MATIC better.
"I bought the 2003 model after a long search for an extremely clean and low mileage unit. The 2003 model is smaller with about the same interior space, better road clearance by far, and about the same perceived power given the weight difference. So many times cars start out as great designs and get bigger and bigger with each model change. Look what happened to the Ford Thunderbird for a sad example of this. Too bad MB followed down this sad road."

I own an MDX, an RX, and this ML. I thought the RX drives like a car and as smooth as my Avalon that I just traded in for the MDX, which is good but drives like a truck. Then we got the ML, drives better than all. Great vehicle.

"3.7l vs 3.5l. Not sure really, just assuming."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2013 Acura MDX SH-AWD with Technology Package better.
"It is a three row versus the ML is a two row. With third row down it is bigger considering two rows up."
