The best equipped (and most expensive) Outback trim available for 2008, the Outback 3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition, pumps up the power quotient with a 245-horsepower, six-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine. The engine sits longitudinally on the chassis, resulting in a lower center of gravity and better overall balance, and links to a five-speed adaptive electronic automatic transmission with Sportshift manual control.
Standard equipment includes the SI-DRIVE performance management system, which enables the driver to maximize engine performance by choosing from Intelligent, Sport, or Sport Sharp driving modes. The Intelligent mode improves fuel efficiency, while the Sport and Sport Sharp modes provide more dynamic driving experiences.
The 3.0 R also features a Vehicle Dynamic Control system, which constantly monitors vehicle stability and automatically applies brakes and/or reduces engine power when it senses an impending emergency situation. A four-wheel independent heavy-duty raised suspension and symmetrical all-wheel drive also come standard.
Interior features include heated and power-adjustable front seats, L.L.Bean-embossed two-tone leather-trimmed upholstery, a panoramic tilt/sliding dual-panel moonroof, a wood and leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, an L.L. Bean-embossed cargo-area tray, and sport-design electroluminescent lighting.
For entertainment, the 3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition comes equipped with a 100-watt six-speaker audio system with a six-disc in-dash CD changer, MP3 capability, and 3D audio enhancement.
