New this year, the Club Racer trim boosts performance by strengthening the shocks, springs, stabilizer bars, and suspension in this two-seat convertible racer. Geared toward the track, the rear-wheel-drive 2008 Honda S2000 CR retains the Base trim's 237-hp, 2.2-liter, DOHC VTEC inline four-cylinder engine, 6-speed short-throw manual transmission, and double-wishbone front and rear suspension, but makes enhancements by adding a limited-slip rear differential, front and rear spoilers, and a quicker steering ratio. Available only in shocking blue, the limited-edition 2008 S2000 CR features special black badging, gray 17-inch alloy wheels with performance tires, and interior suede sport seats with yellow stitching.
Alloy interior trim is replaced by carbon fiber, and the spherical shift knob recalls true race cars. Air conditioning and the CD player/radio have been jettisoned to reduce weight (and improve acceleration), but these can be added as options. The retractable soft top of the Base is replaced with a removable hardtop. Other standard equipment includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a tachometer and temperature display, intermittent wipers, a full power setup, remote entry, and wheel-mounted cruise control. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front airbags, traction and stability control (which can be disengaged), a tire monitor, and xenon HID headlamps are part of the standard safety features in the 2008 S2000 CR.
