While the Regular LT G3500 rides on a 135-inch wheelbase, the 2008 GMC Savana LT G3500 Extended adds 20 inches to accommodate up to five rows of seats. It comes standard with four rows for 12 people, but fits 15 people with the extra rear bench. This bench split-folds 50/50 and all rear rows are removable. The extra length cuts down on towing capacity, from 7700 to 7400, but the rear-wheel drive van still comes with a 6.0-liter, 323-hp V8. The 4-speed automatic features overdrive and a tow/haul mode. The Extended version holds up to 253 cubic feet of cargo, and a roof rack is a dealer option.
Like the LT G1500, the 3500 boosts interior comfort with full power features, wheel-mounted cruise control, remote entry, a trip computer, cloth seats, chrome bumpers, a compass, and front and rear climate control. Already part of the package is a radio, intermittent wipers, two front power outlets, tilt steering, and 16-inch steel wheels with all-season tires. There are some optional upgrades that add 6-way power front seats, a leather steering wheel, and a choice of a single CD/MP3 player or in-dash 6-CD changer. A sliding side passenger door can replace the 60/40 split-hinged door.
Safety features help earn five stars in frontal impact tests, but only manage three stars in rollover tests, despite front and rear stabilizer bars. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front and side curtain airbags for three rows, passenger airbag deactivation, side impact beams, traction and stability control, a tire monitor, and halogen lamps are all standard. Mirrors with turn signals are optional.
