Workhorse Or Budget Poser Pick-up — hard wearing, lots of useless chrome, tough interior, VERY cramped in back. and wheel arches in rear tray makes it hard to fill it up.

Pros: Great turbo kick at 2000rpm,

Cons: Very spongey brakes, suspension no where near up to task, you feel every single bump you go over.

Practical — Shifts really easy with the 5 speed. Not much cab room in the back seat, but who sits there anyways. Decent power from the 4.0 V6. GREAT off road capability, nice crawling in 4L. not much of an aftermarket, though. comfortable ride for a truck, 20ish MPG average. sounds killer with an exhaust, for a V6. its no V8 but it still gets the job done. doesn't tow much, can't tow my jeep.

Pros: great mileage, decent power, superior off-road capability

Cons: lack of towing capability, no room in back seats for people

The New All Aluminum Engine Took The Ranger To The Next Level — This ranger gets about 35mpg on the highway and around 25-28 in the city. the light weight engine with the hp and tq increase makes this truck a steal!

Pros: the price, gas mileage, comfort

Cons: none

2006 Ranger Sport Extended Cab —

This is the first small truck I have owned. I did allot of research on small trucks, and found the Ranger to be the most trouble free. It has a dated design, but , all the "bugs" are worked out of it. This truck I got has the 3.0L engine, it has good power and great fuel economy. The 4.0L engine does have more power, but , fuel economy approaches V-8 territory. The 4 door extended cab does come in handy and the ride of an extended cab is much better then the regular cab. Combined city and highway mileage is good, I get over 20 mpg. My old truck was around 14mpg , so it is a vast improvement. The truck rides well and is quiet. No squeaks or rattles, even with it being purchased used and having 55000km. ( the truck now has 147000km and still drives fine) This truck handles well on the highway, and in the city. I have no complaints with this vehicle, except it is a little under powered when you need to pass some one( the 4.0L would work better here) The transmission is a 5 speed auto and it seems to shift fine. Brakes work well and anti lock performs when needed. Despite being 2 wheel drive , the truck works fine in winter conditions. We added a cap on the back and it seems to help with snow traction ( added weight)

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: price, reliability, looks, fuel economy

Cons: power, no 7ft box option with extended cab

2006 Ford Ranger XL 2 Door RWD Review
James says:
Small 4 cylinder pickup does not get the great gas milage I had hoped for and lacks in power, the auto tranny is weak, even worse if you have a trailer and haul a load. If you like leg room in the cab opt for the extended cab. The short bed lacks in ability to haul a good load. For a truck I should have gotton a F-150. It is an ok little truck.

Front Seats Ranked 2003 Ford Explorer Sport XLS better.
"the front seat have more options to lean back and seem more comfortable than the Ranger"
Family Car Ranked 2003 Ford Explorer Sport XLS better.
"two adults in a ranger is full up, try to get a child or two with mom and dad, impossible. Explorer 2 dr is nice because kids (in no way shape or form) cannot open the rear door. It will be a pain to get car seats in for toddlers, but 10-16 year olds will be fine and room for groceries in the back without everything going every where in an open pickup bed. "
