Good Looking, Reliable Car — Good looking sedan, excellent on gas, or diesel. Considering that it's a TDI, it's got more power than I expected when I bought it. Braking could be a little better but it can pass, where as handling is pretty good. Gotta love how ESP does it's job when u lose control on snow, or wet surface. So far haven't had any problems with it. Had to change light bulbs a couple of times. Love how it keeps its value. Overall a very good car. Recommend it to anyone!

Pros: good on gas, keeps its value

Cons: not every gas station has diesel

Lovelly Car For Family Or Work It Pulls Its Weight — sleek and stylish with lots of knobs and buttons for keeping you amused during long journeys!!!! even a refrigerated glove box for keeping your drinks cool during the summer holiday traffic jams !!!

Pros: nice car for free

Cons: If i had to spend 17k on a car i think i would go for something a bit sportier but seing as we dont have to pay for it well worth it

My 2nd Passat — I Loved my '96 Passat wagon, even drove it from Ohio to Alaska and back. So I upgraded to a used 2005 wagon. Everything works as it should. All features, systems seem to be operating just as VW designed. My kids think wagons are out of date, but in Europe this model and Audi equivalents are very popular. I like being able to put a lawnmower in back, golf clubs are easy, and road trips even for just 2 of us there is abundant space. Gas mileage is 23 around town, 28 on trips. At speeds of 50-55 it gets closer to 30. VW specifies super premium but I use mid-grade with no apparent problems.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Good economical car with lots of space in back and decent styling.

Cons: Brakes have never been great, even with fresh pads the car takes more effort to stop than other cars.

This is the worst car I have ever owned. Is there anything that doesnt break on this car? Headlight adjustments broke. They are very dim anyway, even with new bulbs. Heated seats malfunction - The drivers side burns your butt and will melt the vinyl if it is left on. The passenger side doesnt work. Secondary air system - The cheap plastic hose broke. Rear door lock actuator broke. Keyless entry malfunctions - The problem is with the electrical connections in the car, not the actual remote. Window switches malfunction - They get stuck. The contacts wear out on the switch. The engine leaks oil - Every gasket leaks. I repeat...EVERY gasket leaks. I just had them all replaced. Two years later...leaks, leaks, leaks. Engine coolant leaks. Where? IDK. I cant find the leak, but it leaks. The automatic transmission shift lever gets stuck sometimes, and the transmission shifts strange. The CV Joints and ball joints went bad. The AC fan quit working. The interior trim is painted plastic? It peels off. - Im sure that more will break soon. Stay away from 1998 - 2005 Passats.

The V6 engine (which is otherwise stellar) creates way too much torque steer and wheel spin on the front wheel drive Passat. Also, the DSG transmission (V6 model) is jerky at lower speeds. The 1.8... Read More
