Fantastic Automobile — Fantastic automobile with exceptional performance. The longer I drive the more I appreciate the car. Interior is spacious and designed well with guages that are easy to read. Acceleration is very fast and the car also accelerates well at high speed. Be warned that 80 mph feels like your at 40mph.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Performance, Handeling, Style

Cons: Poor Navigation System, Number of small repairs

2005 Sl500 Summary — Performance.. needs more hp on the base model. its a heavy vehicle.. so the power to wt ration is mediocre at best. Appearance.. gorgeous, beautiful line.. Interior is fine.. its a convertible.. so the interior needs to be a bit more durable than what i would expect from a Coupe or a Sedan from Mercedes. Its wonderful to drive.. I love it.. the electronic throttle has a bit of lag between the time you punch your foot down. and the car responds.. about 1 sec or so... But then its is a Luxury sports car and not a Racing roadster. If you need a bit more punch to your drive to go up against the Rice burners.. then step up to the SL55 or SL65.. if you have the deep pockects of course

Pros: style, shape, driveability, technology, convertible hard top.

Cons: power to weight ratio, throttle response.., price.

The Most Amazing Engine Ever!! — looks like just your average SL...but with a twin turbo 12 cylinder engine with 604 HP!!!! This car gives you whip lash!

Pros: Engine

Cons: average SL looks for $200k

So Fun —

i love driving the SL500. My dad owns one and sometimes I end up driving it, which is far from a bad thing. First of all, I need to say that the folding hard-top in itself is amazing, not only does it represent some incredible engineering on Mercedes' part, but it's also just amazing to get to enjoy all the comforts of a coupe with all the fun a convertible. Secondly, the car drives incredibly, this may be the base model SL but that doenst mean it's not fast. In fact it's still faster than most other cars youre likely to see on a public road. It hugs the road like its glued there and i have never once felt like I was nto completely in control of this car, but it's still really fun to drive. On top of that, for a convertible it's very comfortable, though I dont know for the long term cause i only take it once every month or so. However, for a Mercedes-Benz, its not as relaible as one might think, bu it's still pretty good. After one year of living with, it's only had one minor electrical problem (that was covered by the warranty), so it's really been prety good overall. Amazing car with suprisingly good gas mileage for a V8, I love it.

Pros: Fast, comfortable,  hardtop convertible, sex appeal is through the roof

Cons: Lack of seating capactiy, paranoia that comes with driving such an expensive automobile

I Haven't Driven It Long Enought To Say Good Or Bad. —

I can't really review my car. I bought it last month and the dealer has had it longer then I have. Drove 125+ miles to buy this car at the Mercedes Benz of Ontario and a day after I bought it, the car started having problems. 1) The light came on stating the windshield wiper fluid was low. 2) While driving, the light came on stating the key was not within rage. 3) the trunk would not stay open. 4) The car pulled to the right, took it to the dealer and a week later picked it up. According to the Service personnal, the problems were corrected and the car was checked for any other issues. The next day , after picking it up, I was unable to unlock the car and was stranded, took it back to the MB dealer. Pick it up a week later, the next day the car would not start...stranded again. That was two weeks ago. My car is still at the Dealer. It is obvious the car has issues, but more so the Dealer. It seems that the car was never checked before the dealer put it out for sale. I've had other problems with the car, but more so with Mercedes Benz of Ontario. I've been over promised by them and under delivered. Except for the service gentleman, no one wants to talk to me. If I can give any one a word of advice, please read what othe people have written about the dealer you are considering purchasing your next vehicle.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Beautiful looking car!

Cons: I think I got a LEMON.  Be careful where you buy the car.  Even if it's a MB dealer, you would be surprise how shady they are.  Especially Fletcher Jones.

Exhilarating Feeling!!! — Bought the car pre-owned 2 years ago. Love it today as much as the first day I bought it. It is really fun to drive. It had 18K miles on it when I bought it and it now has 37K miles and there have been no issues. Gas mileage on highway is great but if you want to have fun with the car then keep your wallet ready at the pump. Performance is wonderful and ride quality is great. Don't regret the purchase at all.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Handling, comfort, style, attention magnet!  Highway mileage awesome....23 - 24 MPG at cruising speed....70-80 mph

Cons: City gas mileage not bad for V-8 but the current gas price is murder...since it only takes premium gasoline....and if you have a heavy foot..you WILL get 10 miles a gallon.
