Great 2 Seater Convertible With All The Get Up And Go You Want — The SL55 AMG is high performance, well built luxury car. Much of the interior features are taken from the top of the line S Class car. The SL is a very popular 2 door that new cost in the $125k to $140k range, but are widely available in the used market. These cars can be purchased for half to one third of their sticker price and will run trouble free to well over 100,000 miles.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Great buy in the used market.  Great fun to drive.

Cons: Once you have owned one you will be hooked.

Wow Sexy — all around class and power, sexy and top down or up the car speaks for itself, fast and smooth, style and sporty, at high speeds or slow speeds the car feels great, new tires new rims and tints, clean and well maintained.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: just look at it the car speaks for it self

Cons: none

Powerful Black Beauty!!! I Love This Car. — For the money there is no replacement for this car. Its in a class of it's own. The SL55 has a big power plant that take you anywhere you want to go as fast as you want to go, but still has the luxury mercedes feel. The look is just Crazy it is just Sick! I love the way its blacked out, and the satin black center and gloss black lips on the wheel are tastefully done. The no emblems was definitely a great idea as well. The suede inserts in the seats look stock. Great Job!! This is truly a hot car and it will sell fast.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: This car is awesome! it has plenty of power and great throttle response with great breaking. Its definitely a head turner, people love to stare and conversate about it. It is tastefully done.

Cons: No back seat for the kids.

Cruising Has Never Been This Good... —

An wolf in sheeps clothing. This is what the SL600 is... With the standard SL500 body and trim, this car is one of the most understated supercars on the market. However, it beats Porsche 996 Turbo's, annihilates BMW M5's and can surely be classed as one of Merc's finest production cars to date. With 368kW under its hood, this bullet (a 2-tonne bullet) catapults itself from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds.... thats if the wheels can get enough grip. Brakes on the car are amazing, with solid stopped guaranteed time and time again. Track driving with disappointing. The car was amazing in straight line speed (keeping up with a Lambo Gallardo), but unfortunately its weight and the cornering proved just too much for the brakes and tyres. However, acting like a wannabe "Gone in 60 Seconds" racer on William Nicol proves to be monumentally exciting, and acceleration is relentless, all the way to the 250km/h limit. The build quality is fantastic, with seat cushioning made from amazonian coconut husks, and nappa leather draped all over the dash, middle console and suede roof lining. The cost of owning one of these machines has never been so cheap. Coming in at around R500k-R700k, you have a car that will give most supercars a run for their money, with the comfort and elegance you'd expect from a Bentley.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Wanna be a drag racer? This is the answer...

Cons: Not built for track use.

A Great Car For The Money! — This is an awsome car! But when she wants her hair and nails done it will cost you! Tires alone are over $1700 a set but it is worth it. There is alot of trunk room for this type of vehicle.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Looks

Cons: Maintenance Costs

Extremely Pleased I Own It. May Be Last Passenger Car I Ever Buy. — Outstanding. Bought certified pre-owned in January of '08 with 15k miles on it. Car now has 85k on it. I take good care of it, drive it hard and still look forward to getting in it every day. Handles great, extremely comfortable (I'm a big guy) and performance second to none I've driven. Have had cops stop me and say, "Well, you were speeding. I'll give you a warning. Just wanted to get a closer look at your car."

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Everything

Cons: Bring your checkbook.  Pricey to run / maintain properly

Fantastic Automobile — Fantastic automobile with exceptional performance. The longer I drive the more I appreciate the car. Interior is spacious and designed well with guages that are easy to read. Acceleration is very fast and the car also accelerates well at high speed. Be warned that 80 mph feels like your at 40mph.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Performance, Handeling, Style

Cons: Poor Navigation System, Number of small repairs

2005 Sl500 Summary — Performance.. needs more hp on the base model. its a heavy vehicle.. so the power to wt ration is mediocre at best. Appearance.. gorgeous, beautiful line.. Interior is fine.. its a convertible.. so the interior needs to be a bit more durable than what i would expect from a Coupe or a Sedan from Mercedes. Its wonderful to drive.. I love it.. the electronic throttle has a bit of lag between the time you punch your foot down. and the car responds.. about 1 sec or so... But then its is a Luxury sports car and not a Racing roadster. If you need a bit more punch to your drive to go up against the Rice burners.. then step up to the SL55 or SL65.. if you have the deep pockects of course

Pros: style, shape, driveability, technology, convertible hard top.

Cons: power to weight ratio, throttle response.., price.

So Fun —

i love driving the SL500. My dad owns one and sometimes I end up driving it, which is far from a bad thing. First of all, I need to say that the folding hard-top in itself is amazing, not only does it represent some incredible engineering on Mercedes' part, but it's also just amazing to get to enjoy all the comforts of a coupe with all the fun a convertible. Secondly, the car drives incredibly, this may be the base model SL but that doenst mean it's not fast. In fact it's still faster than most other cars youre likely to see on a public road. It hugs the road like its glued there and i have never once felt like I was nto completely in control of this car, but it's still really fun to drive. On top of that, for a convertible it's very comfortable, though I dont know for the long term cause i only take it once every month or so. However, for a Mercedes-Benz, its not as relaible as one might think, bu it's still pretty good. After one year of living with, it's only had one minor electrical problem (that was covered by the warranty), so it's really been prety good overall. Amazing car with suprisingly good gas mileage for a V8, I love it.

Pros: Fast, comfortable,  hardtop convertible, sex appeal is through the roof

Cons: Lack of seating capactiy, paranoia that comes with driving such an expensive automobile
