The 2005 Mercedes Benz SL500 received only threadbare updates from its 2003-2004 predecessors, primarily in the media and navigation centers going to a widescreen screen and DVD navgation format. Nothing remarkable otherwise, in the cockpit. The drivetrain has a bit more to boast about; going from the 5-speed to 7- speed transmission which added considerably noticable zest, to what is already a very spirited driving experience. The general consensus is that the 2005 was built more soundly than the 2003 in the way of Illuminating fuel pump noise and convertible top rattles. Additional color choices also came available in 2005. Unless you were one of the Unlucky Souls that received a lemon from the factory; there is just nothing derogatory that can be stated about the Mercedes-Benz SL series roadsters. Incredibly nimble, noticeably quick, and truly sexy, are words that come to mind, when talking about this car. The truly beautiful thing is the price of these vehicles in the used car market... original 1st time buyers endured the drastic depreciating value, where some, paid well over 100k new and sold at 10k. (Lucky for us). Theres plenty of enjoyment left in these classics, and when you are purchasing at such a discount, DIY repairs and maintenance are much more approachable by a typical person with average mechanical capabilities.

Love this model. Unfortunately looks like vehicle’s suspension has been lowered. Other than that over all vehicle looks great. This type of vehicle model, changing it’s natural features makes it useless...

These are excellent used cars if you find the right one (do your research). If the car has thorough and detailed service records and the seller loved the car, they likely attended to what was needed. The challenge with these cars is they have complex systems (suspension, top, brakes, fuel) and they are getting to the age where renewal is required and thats expensive. If you can do the repairs yourself (and enjoy it) they are great cars to have. If you need help from a dealer or independent mechanic expect long repair stays and large bills. Also, the fluid seals dont last long , so expect driveway oil cleanup or expensive replacements. Otherwise these cars are well engineered, well executed and a great value for a moving art piece.

I love the car and believe it to be a strong value. I am specifically looking for two options that this car does not have. A/C front seats and Bluetooth.

Sporty, Fast Two Seater Convertible Luxury Car — Supercharged 5.5 liter delivers 493hp which takes this car to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. When it was first produced this was rocket fast, but today is a second off the standard. The Interior appointment is drawn from the top of the line S class has all the bell and whistles. Air suspension, parktronic sensors, Radar assisted cruise control and many other features that are only today available on other brands. The AMG Sl has used 3 power plants. The early versions used the 5.5 liter supercharged motor then in 2009 Mercedes introduced the normally aspirated 6.3 v8 to the line and in 2013 the 5.5 liter Biturbo was selected. All are great vehicles but the new 2013 and later versions incorporate more aluminum and carbon fiber to help reduce the weight of this car.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: These cars are well built and designed to last so they are a great buy in the used market.  You can find them for half to one third of their sticker price of $125,000.

Cons: This is a heavy car and its track performance is second to BMW's and other lighter vehicles

Great 2 Seater Convertible With All The Get Up And Go You Want — The SL55 AMG is high performance, well built luxury car. Much of the interior features are taken from the top of the line S Class car. The SL is a very popular 2 door that new cost in the $125k to $140k range, but are widely available in the used market. These cars can be purchased for half to one third of their sticker price and will run trouble free to well over 100,000 miles.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Great buy in the used market.  Great fun to drive.

Cons: Once you have owned one you will be hooked.

Wow Sexy — all around class and power, sexy and top down or up the car speaks for itself, fast and smooth, style and sporty, at high speeds or slow speeds the car feels great, new tires new rims and tints, clean and well maintained.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: just look at it the car speaks for it self

Cons: none
