Beautiful Sheen, Color, And Well Maintained — I liked everything about this car. I especially enjoy the temperature control, such that at any temperature you set it too, you have the option of making that temperature cooler or warmer. There are no dislikes. It hugs the road, is air tight, is powerful, and still smells new. The speakers are Harmon Kardon and sound great. Comes with a sunroof as well. Everything works.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: This car has a unique beautiful color that turns heads.  It has been kept in my garage so detailing is still very nice.  Air tight and low mileage, it handles great and has powerful thrust.

Cons: This is a 2 door so not easy to get in and out of backseat.  Also is not sufficient leg room for back seat riders.

Converted — In my 20's and even early 30's I was all about muscle cars, corvette, camaro. Cars that had a lot of attitude, as I reach my 40's I am looking for more refinement. I still want muscle but with a hint of grace. I want a car not only fast but can handle Hwy 1 headed south from Monterey, and yet take my wife to a elegant dinner on date night. This had to be what the engineers from BMW were thinking when they build this car. This is my first BMW, and I can not ever see my garage not protecting one for the rest of my life.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Great on fuel economy, comfortable ride with an edge of sport.

Cons: I guess it would have to be maintenance cost, but everyone knows what their getting into with a BMW. You get what you pay for.

Fantastic And Fun! — I've owned four E46 BMW's (all with manual transmissions). I've ventured out and sampled the Audi A4 and A6, the Mercedes C and E Class and the BMW 5 Series. I always come back to the E46. My lifestyle requires the utility of a wagon, but I want the handling and performance of a sport sedan. Hands down the 2001-2005 BMW 3 Series is the finest drving machine on the planet for it's combination of balanced driving dynamics, comfort, safety and real-world performance & reliability. It is the ultimate driving machine for me.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Balanced driving dynamics, wonderful torque and acceleration, superb fit & finish, elegant styling, comfortable seats and driving position, excellent efficiency and economy, safe, reliable when adequate preventive maintenance is performed.

Cons: Above average maintenance costs, but then it's a way-above average car.

A Drivers Car! — Buy a BMW, you'll understand what you've been missing. I bought mine used, with 95k miles on it, one owner, one driver (likely a woman), car is mint. In midnight blue metallic with a black leather interior, this car is a stunner! Thanks Bavaria.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Designs and engineering quality

Cons: ...that I haven't owned a BMW sooner!

Best Car Ever Owned — Great looking car. Great on gas and totally stylish. Perfomance is amazing. It hugs the road and hugs you. Maintenance can sometimes be a little expensive, but worth every penny. Once a BMW owner, you will always drive a BMW.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Dependable, and looks great!

Cons: wish it was a little larger

Well Worthwhile Investment At Any Age — This is my 4th BMW and best thus far. I have owned the E30 (1985), E24 (1986), E36 (1997) and this E46 (2003). The progressive improvements over the years are quite noticeable in this E46 model. It has been rated as BMW's most reliable among the 3 Series and one of their most bulletproof reliable vehicles ever built. We have owned for 4 1/2 years and other than normal maintenance, it is Japanese like in its steadfast relaibility. As we live in a Northern city, adding Winter tires has given this rear drive vehicle snowplow capabilities without sacrficing year round handling. Once these cars are out of warranty, I highly recommend servicing through private mechanics who can easily access BMW parts and fit/fix for much lower labor costs. The drivability is excellent whether it be a short commute or long haul. No wonder BMW is coined as the "Ultimate driving machine"

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Handling, reliability, versatility of the wagon

Cons: Need to Haul Large Loads
