New for 2002, the Mercedes-Benz C320 wagon joined the C320 sedan in the German automaker's lineup. Like the sedan, it drew many of its design elements from the more powerful S-Class vehicles. And like the sedan, it provided a solid, dependable, and competent driving experience, though there were those who found the design and performance a bit uninspiring.
The C320 was was powered by a 3.2-liter V6 engine that produced 215 horsepower. A five-speed automatic was the standard transmission. No manual was avialable with this vehicle. The automatic was equipped with the Touch Shift feature, which enabled the driver to upshift and downshift, depending on driving conditions, by nudging the shift lever left or right.
Standard features included power windows, power heated mirrors, power-adjustable front seats with memory, leather seats throughout, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob with audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, air conditioning, a keyless entry system, interior wood trim, cruise control, a trip computer, and a premium Bose audio system.
Other features included a roof rack, 16-inch alloy wheels, traction control, anti-lock brakes, an anti-skid system, and stability control, as well as a full complement of airbags.
