Great For A Small Suv — Escape is a nice vehicle. I would buy another but a hybrid style. Its not the best on gas ,as for all SUV/Trucks.

Pros: I Like all the extras I have wit my truck : 6 disc changer, and  sunroof

Cons: None...  I have no problems with my truck so far!!!

Flame Red That I Only Had For 6mo - It Saved My Life! — By unfortunate events, I bought this brand new and was in an accident, totalling it - but because of its impecable safety features, it saved my life!!!

Pros: Fun, Spacy, I made money off it!

Cons: when it rained the built-in alarm system would go off - even while driving!

A Great Suv That Needs Alot Of Maintenance. — We have owned our 2002 Escape XLT 4wd since December 2001. Since then it has been a somewhat reliable vehicle. Then the recalls began for throttle cables, ABS brakes, Idle speed sensor and then then rumors of transmission problems, stalling while in gear at traffic lights and power steering issues. Now we have recently noticed flashing day driving lights and engine surging while idling (it goes away when you accelerate and at cruise). I am 6'5" and fit comfortable in the vehicle. We have done many long road trips seeing the eastern seabord in it and have towed our 17ft bowrider boat to the lakes. It handles very well in ice and snow conditions as well as rainy weather. I really don't like the idea of getting rid of it, but would really like to keep it without having to worry about the next issue for the Escape line of SUV's.

Pros: For being an SUV it gets good gas mileage, comfortable on road trips

Cons: High maintenance and excessive recalls for any vehicle

2002 Ford Escape XLT Review
says:
the escape is a tin can so to speak ... 270 hp 6 cyl with little weight to push ... linda like a go cart... very flimsy and cheap.. the leather seats were so hard your tail will go numb after 2 hours on the road.. very good milage around 23 mpg like clockwork but it a front wheel drive. egr valve needs cleaned often otherwise very dependable. not a suv at all ! a really small deer at 35 mph did 5600 damage ... there is no bumper on this car just a fake plastic cover.the deer caused the bumper (cover) to collapse bending hood up busting grill through cooler evap and radiator in to the electric fans.... this is government pushing for safety standards but not the way to be sensible about it . In a nut shell its made to fold up if you have the slightest wreck so its a disposable car if you wreck it , throw it away. It had nice options like a great sound system with sub built in, powered moon roof open 2 ways. noisy and rattles bad on rough roads due to loose couplings in steering design. rough riding.. great car for quick maneuvering around town.
