Great Pickup/good Looking — Great looking pickup. Trouble free until 100000 miles, but not too bad. Still works great. 2001 still tougher looking than new chevy.

Pros: Good lines, super comfortable interior, great seats, drives well on/off road

Cons: lots of "little" problems after 100,000 miles.  Needs more power.

Dependable Transportation — Enough room to seat five people comfortably. Like the front bucket seats. Tune-ups can be pricey as will replacing spark plugs. I like the tonneau cover and towing package that came with the vehicle and the bed cover that saves the back of the vehicle from scratches. The bed extender has come in handy a number of times while transporting items.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: After 13 years and 211000 miles other than required maintenance still runs great

Cons: For the vehicle type it is expected, but I would probably not purchase another of the same type

Overall Pretty Awesome Vehicle, Unusual For A Factory Supercharged Vehicle Clocking In At 4700 Lbs. — Overall, I'd highly recommend the Gen 2 Ford SVT Lightning. The power to weight ratio is incomparable even in today's current offering. the 2001 - 2004 models clock in at 380 HP and 450 Lb. Ft. of torque. There's nothing out there like them.....

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Sharp truck and VERY Fast! Drives like a sports car, and not like a truck. Pretty unusual characteristics for a pickup truck indeed.

Cons: Must use high test gasoline, no skimping on the fuel with these.
Wet roads, may want to reconsider depending on whether it's raining, and / or how hard.
Snow / Ice, don't even think about it, leave it at home.

Great All Around Truck! —

I have a 2 wheel drive 2001 F-150 4.2L 6-cyl extended cab with a 5 speed manual transmission. I bought it in 2006 with about 70,000 miles on it, and I recently sold it in Fall 2014. I hated to let it go, but with manual transmission the towing capacity is only about 3,300 lbs. This was right at the limit of the trailer I wanted to tow, so I ending up getting a 2010 F250. I do my own maintenance as I'm an engineer and somewhat mechanically inclined. The 2001 F150 is exceptionally easy to work on by ANYONE. Just buy the service manual at any auto parts store and you can do anything on your vehicle The things that I had to replace are the rotors, fuel pump, O2 sensor, and basic maintenance. The only other repair I had to due was an intake manifold gasket. This was a pain to get to all of the bolts and all because Ford chose the wrong bolts for the design. I love how smooth the truck rides both on and off road. I love the Extended Cab option most of all and can't imagine owning a truck that is not an Extended Cab or Crewcab now. After nearly 14 years, the paint finish is still bright and shiny. One annoying thing was the passenger side power window failed to operate properly and gets stuck in the closed position.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: Smooth ride
Reliable truck
Good gas mileage for a truck.

Cons: Air intake manifold bolts
Low Towing Capacity
Power windows under powered

I Cant Get Enough Of It — nice ride, the 5.4 is a power house, especially when treated right, the cabin is very spacious and the bed is small but that just means that you dont have to help your friends move out or in or any where

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: its powerful, handleable and looks sweet as balls when done right

Cons: the ever present ford stigma

Ford All The Way — Performance- Pushing over 300hp to the wheels. haven't done a quarter time yet. Handles great. Build Quality- No Repairs and its A BLUE OVAL Appearance- paints starting to oxidize, but hey its 10 years old Cost of Ownership- About 12 to the gallon. Maintenance= 0 Fun Factor- Amazing. Beast. Only thing that make it better if it had a diesel Um the only thing i really have to say is that its a American made vehicle, which means its the best. Plus its running th BLUE OVAL only company not to take the bail out. Might get Crap for gas millage but hey if your getting good mileage your not driving a truck.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Fun to drive. Solid build. A lot of room to get comfy

Cons: Gas millage

It was my first car for a while it is hard to maintain yourself but the drivetrain is reliable. The 5.4L engine seems underpowered compared to the chevy 5.3 and doesnt give good mpg: about 16-17mpg despite my best efforts. The suspension seems loose but is so much fun to fly down dirt roads. The power door locks stopped working. The bed size leaves much to be desired but its good for hauling smaller items.
