Looks Aren't Anything When It Comes To Total Hassle —

I looked for a long time for this era of car, loving the styling of it more than newer ones, wanting white/gray. Also too bad I just didn't take to the internet with this car to look up inherent problems. Because I would NOT have bought it had I done that one simple thing. Oy Vey!!! Where do I begin? First - the Pros since they are few compared to the Cons. Looks great! Drives great! Nice amount of room inside, fairly good size trunk. Cons - Gas hog, oil hog, parts hog, sensor hog...you name it, you'll probably end up fixing or replacing by the time you decide to do yourself a favor and just ditch it before it eats up your savings. If this car was purchased new, or close to new - it would have probably been ok, although there are probs with the transmission so BEWARE - the reverse can go out at any mileage...yessiree it does and mine did! Within a few months or purchase I had to buy all new oxygen sensors - All 4 to the tune of $800 + labor. Now the outside thermometer is done for, and the air con will not come on as a result. Found a YouTube vid so repairing myself. Just know - the 'check engine light' being on is a pretty light to accompany you at most times, whether you just had it checked and reset or not. All sensors affect all the systems, so gone are the good old days of the quality BMW build where you did not have to fix everything right away. Pre 1990 BMWs are the BEST!!! And I'm sure some of the newer models are good - it's just that things like the clips for the door trim, for example, are all plastic - so they do not last. Yes, I bought it as a 10 yr old car, but make no mistake - cars are NOT built to last like the old days. Looking for a 1985 5 series. They rock. My daughter drives my mom's old one and it is a trooper...like ALL BMWs used to be. Shine this model on - WAY on....

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Looks Good, Drives Like A Race Car, Lots of Power

Cons: Build  = Two Thumbs Down, Constant Sensor Problems, Check Engine Light Always On - whether you just had it checked out and reset...

Luv It! — Is dechromed, 17" msport wheels, alacantara seats, manual, smoooooth, rear parking sensors, Love it. Has good sound system also but currently only single CD. All that's missing is an inbuilt satnav and also CD changer. Solid german reliability. Can't go wrong. Having owned a 7, 5 and now 3 series, the 7 was pure luxury, the 5 E34 was as solid as they come and super smooth, but admittedly for sheer driving dynamics and all round quality, it has to be the 3. Now that i'm used to the power delivery from this 2.2 straight 6, need to go higher.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Build quality

Cons: Can be expensive to maintain but it's worth it. Fuel consumption is not low! :)

Awesome To Drive But Sometimes A Labor Of Love...totally Worth It Though! — I love my car! It's a bit more expensive to own and maintain than most Japanese or American cars, but when was the last time that anyone got an ear to ear grin from merging in traffic onto Hwy 280 in a Camry? It's nine years old and it still looks modern and beautifully designed.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Fun to drive!

Cons: High maintenance costs.

I currently on this vehicle and it is a superior ride to the Mercedes E320. Further, it handles better and has a sporty-er ride.
