2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2 Dr STD Convertible Review
Overall:
25

Looks Great, Amazing Handling, Convertable, Great Gas Mileage, Reliable, quick — toyota reliability, better than boxster stying, economical, reliable, great handling, good mileage....too little storage - from a storage point of view my '79 X1/9 was MUCH better - this IS a design flaw -need I say more...it's a motorcycle with a roof and a stereo

Cons: no storage

Excellent Affordable Mid-engined Sports Car — This car is always great fun to drive, with a responsive engine and great handling - it will humble many more expensive cars around the twisty bits. Hardtop does make winter in England more bearable, and stops damage to the soft top when used (mine has been slashed in the past). It is also very good over speed bumps - no slowing down is needed - although even with really good suspension there is scuttle-shake when driving over London pot-holes.

Pros: Brilliant handling, reasonably quick, good fuel economy (30mpg), air con, hardtop, surprisingly good on long journeys.

Cons: Not very practical (luggage space is minimal), scuttle shake, cheap plastics.

Awesome, It Lacks Nothing Except A Place For A Large Suitcase (get A Luggage Rack) — This car is awesome for me, handling, reliable, tiny engine, 33mpg, fast. It is easy to slide around corners and still maintain control. The best part is that it is made for shorter drivers, and I am 5-7.

Owner for 5 years, 4 months

Miles Driven per Year:20,000

Pros: It looks and drives great, unbeatable perfomance for the gas mileage

Cons: Almost no storage, I eliminated the spare tire for more space

Fantastic 'cept For Pre-cat, Hood-release Issues — This is a car for people who are into DRIVING. Mine has the manual tranny - I LOVE listening to the engine (located right behind ya) respond to the accelerator and gear changes, and the mid-engine configuration really shows its stuff. Such a SHAME that Toyota continues to stonewall about the pre-cat issue.

Pros: SUPER fun. Formula 1 handling.

Cons: Pre-cat issue - especially 2000 through 2002 models - and defective hood-release latch  (ck Technical Service Bulletin and replacement latch for '00 - '02 models). Do a Google search, and visit online MR2 clubs such as Spyderchat. Due to the pre-cat issue, many folks - I'm one of 'em - have lost in the range of $8,500 rebuilding engines and replacing exhaust systems. Toyota continues to stonewall.
