Mercedes Benz C180 Review — 85kw, white, compact sedan, sub-$60,000, quite a nice place to sit, air con broke a few times already, trip computer has a mind of its own, engine stalls at the worst times, scary depreciation, German sedan made in South Africa.

Pros: Quite comfortable most of the time, good visibility.

Cons: Underpowered, underdeveloped.

Gotta Love The Benz. — great acceleration once the supercharger kicks in braking- stops on a dime handles like a dream solid as a rock-some squeaks and rattles but its from the cold i think. no reapairs except for the wiper linkage. which is only about $200 to fix. exterior-classy and sophisticated yet sporty and aggressive interior - with the carbon fiber dash and and two toned seats, luxurious and sporty. gas mileage is great but it is a benz and maintenance isnt always cheap ( 46 dollars for an oil change ) but its definitely worth it. i've had two cars before this a honda civic and a chrysler 300m this is the most fun ive ever had driving except for driving a cherokee srt8. Love it I would definitely recommend this car to a friend, if you dont mind the maintenance costs and premium fuel its fantastic. Gotta love the TRUE Mercedes Benz quality, not the chrysler crap that they pass as a mercedes now.

Pros: Its a TRUE Mercedes Benz. Period.

Cons: a squeak here and there. Really aren't any negatives.

Mercedes C280 Sport — The best car I have ever owned. Then again I've owned some POS's. Completely solid and comfortable. Drives comfortable and luxurious. Good pick up and handling for a heavy (>4000lbs.) car. The only down fall is high cost of service and maintenance. I recommend a warranty to take care of things that aren't normal wear and tear.

Pros: Ride comfort, Handling, panty dropping ability

Cons: Maintenance costs

Fast And Friendly — Not one problem since day one. As long as you take it to get the regular A & B inspections, nothing seems to go wrong. My car has over 150K miles on it and it still runs like new. From the interior to the exterior this car is rock solid. The performance is always there and seems to have excess at any speed. Numerous upgrades make this car fun and exciting to drive. I love it.

Pros: Fast, low maintenance, good mileage in the city, superb handing

Cons: Authorized work and parts can be expensive

Dont Buy A W202 Buy A W203. — Bad car. Not the best of what Mercedes could and should have done. I got for a hs grad gift and im very very dissapointed with it. its not fast, not very reliable, very pricy to maintain, interior looks very cheap and makes funny sounds while driving, radio sucks but not like it matters becauze you cant hear it because of the awfull tire noise, rde quality is awfull, "Sport" modle ha what a joke. Thye completly killed the sterring and its too hard to turn it. no standard cd, very very unconmfterble sinc ei drive about 80 miles a week. Its a 2000 so by then you would think they would change the body style by then. this car is for someone who has never experienced what a Mercedes actually is.

Pros: Brakes, Its a Mercedes-Benz

Cons: too many to list

It Is A Rock Solid Car With Beautiful Handling. — Handling is not as good as bimmers, but good enough to be enjoyable. Chassis is very solid, making you feel safe inside. Special Edition features stylish AMG interior. 4 banger engine is very torquey, although small. I love it!

Pros: Traditional MB styling, handsome AMG interior, great handling!

Cons: Electrical equipment sucks!  High maintenance overall!!

Elegance, Reliability, Safety, Comfort All-in-one! — Very satisfied with this car. Good power, good fuel economy, extremely comfortable all year round. Looks much better than even the newest cars nowadays, but at the same time it doesn't scream, "look at me, I'm an exotic 2-door Ferrari! I have money!" Stats: - 2000 Mercedes-Benz C240 (W202) - 170hp 2400cc V6 engine - 15" stock Mercedes-Benz alloys - Stock bodykit (front & rear) - Air-conditioning, electric windows, ABS brakes, power steering, airbags - 10-way electric & heated seats (front seats only) - Emerald green metallic paint Mods: - Avantgarde W202 grille (S600 style) - Custom AMG pedals - Custom AMG gear knob - iPod car kit

Pros: Good looks, performance, safety, fuel economy, comfort, pretty much everything. Feels faster than a 170hp car ;)

Cons: Needs some 17" or 18" alloys (preferably AMG Monoblock II's or Brabus Monoblock VI's), C43 AMG bodykit & exhaust, needs to be lowered on sportier suspension! :)

Not A Bad Car For The Money — I bought a 2000 C280 with 53,000 miles mint condition from a older couple in South Hampton NY. Only a few problems: Rear view Mirror broke and I needed to add a CD changer. got that for $400 off ebay.

Pros: Fast for a 2.8 V6, shows great, handling, gas miledge is good, carbon fiber interior, leather, sunroof, bose system,

Cons: the 2001-2004 are built better and can buy one for amost the same price, not all come with cd changer, some parts of the interior could be better

Luxury Car With Stong Motor And Decent Gas Mileage — I liked my 1998 C230 a little better overall due to simpler engine , better gas mileage and runs at lower temp. C280 is faster , smoother and motor is really quiet under acceleration . Can hear a faint transmission whine under modest acceleration because motor is so quiet whereas 230's 4 cylinder moderate buzz made trans. sound unnoticed . Got 29 mpg on hwy. at 75-80 with 3 people in the C280 . Rides more like a larger luxury car but smaller size makes around town maneuvering a breeze yet suspension is not floaty . My son's 1994 BMW 325i feels like its much better connected to the road than either C230 or C280 but its not in the same ballpark in terms of quality of interior and exterior materials/paint quality . At 81,000 miles the C280 is tight as new except very slight driveway speed side to side play in steering . Car makers --- put grease fittings back on ball joints and knuckles !!!!

Pros: Ride , maneuverability , hwy. gas mileage , superior quality of int.ext. materials .

Cons: Rear view mirror swivel design not robust for longevity , city gas mileage , runs about 10 degrees C warmer than most cars even a Ferrari 328 runs cooler - how's engine life ? Pain to add CD changer to fiber optics in trunk .

Great Solid Vehicle, Pricey Accessories, Electronics Glitches, Still Pleased! —

Just bought a used Mercedes C280 w/ 106,000 miles on it 02-23-07. Car felt very comfortable, safe and solid from the get go. I'm tall at 6'4 and have a lower back problem from years of playing sports. Lumbar support could be better, but still was able to manipulate seat for maximum comfort while driving. Only problems so far have been mostly a bad ignition relay ($300) that the dealer paid for. Car would be running great but then once you stopped it and left it for a few minutes it would not start, sounded like it was not getting fuel. Apparently that was just the case, #1 cylinder has something attached to it to inject fuel on the start. Now repaired and has been fine ever since. Also, Left rear turn signal light has a short and I can fix it. Also, fog lights (for right rear) are not functioning like they should. Car gets 29.11 mpg on the highway at 74 mph and runs like a top. I bet I could get over 30 with a lighter foot. All in all, I am still very pleased. I never thought I would like a smaller version Mercedes or otherwise, but I am very satisfied. Great city car, great highway trip vehicle, killer turning radius, you can put down the rear seats and get a load of ski's and snowboards in there and still have some room. If you find a good deal, and car was maintained (although I'm only hoping mine was) I would say you should buy it. I'm a very finicky buyer and was looking for the right vehicle for nearly 3 months before I bought this C280 (sport models look cool to). Oh, and my key was pretty rough so I bought a new one = $170 from dealer only (rip off)! Also, antenna is missing mast...replace the whole thing...$100 (double rip off)! Ouch, the price you pay for these accessories can be crazy. Also, (come to think of it...maybe I should take it back) but the clock and gear indicator (very cool transmission, by the way.. smooth tiptronic style) for 2000 and later) are showing hieroglyphics. Was quoted $1700 to replace...will fix with a piece of Black tape and a clock from the Auto parts store affixed over the malfunctioning readouts (I know this is ghetto...but 1700, come on! Paid $9000 for the car...can't complain but too much. Enjoy this car..watch out for electronics, negotiate price if anything is whacked...I was too taken with the ride and might have been able to barter the price had I known how much these parts were to replace! Still very satisfied, hope to get many years of driven out of this one! Good luck!
