Peppy, Light, And Flashy V6 Model —

I absolutely love this car. It keeps me in the comfort of an American style sports car: roomy, with space to expand (both passenger count and engine size), while also providing a low center of gravity and light body, combined with smaller wheels to give me that rice-burner-esque handling. However, with this car being an all-rounder, it doesn't exceed at any one task, other than looking sexy. After a good bath and wax, it seems to be smiling at the camera with every little sparkle in its metallic finish paint. Other than that though, in sports car terms, it is mediocre in all departments. It can accelerate to 60MPH quickly, but easily beaten out by smaller cars with less weight, or bigger cars with more power. It also has good handling, but will be far outshined by other models such as the Nissan 350Z or even something as simple as a Honda Civic or other import. And it's not just in the import market either. If put up to the test, it would almost certainly be beaten out by new models of the Cobalt from Chevrolet, or the Pontiac G6. To round it out, it is a joy to drive. My previous car was a good condition Chevy Camaro, late 80's model. Being only a small 3.1L V6 I didn't get much of that American Muscle action you'd expect, and the heavy frame made my handling suffer, so switching from that to the 2000 Ford Mustang is an upgrade in every department, with a lighter body weight, a larger engine (3.8L V6), and a shorter body combined with lower center of gravity, it makes every drive that much more enjoyable.

Pros: Acceleration, Handling, and Braking all Performance level.
Maintenance is simple and all parts easy to reach.

Cons: Pales in comparison to other cars in the same class due to its middle-of-the-road design. With a large V6 in a car designed for a V8 it lacks power, and wasn't intended to handle like the common V6 imports.

Lots Of Umph For The $ — 5 Speed Manual w/V8 gives you instant power and very good handling. Comfortable, responsive, and relatively inexpensive.

Pros: Instant power, comfortable leather seats, great sound system, traction controll very helpful in the Pacific North West rain. Attractive styling.

Cons: Always has had loud rear end noise.  Even though engine is powerful enough to handle the weight it still feels heavy.

It's A Ford!!! — Really love my car. I loved the jeep I had too, but since I have a kid now it's not practical to manually put a top up. So, if your looking for something a little bit fun but also very practical, it's great. It's a solid car, it handles well, and I've never had any major problems with it. I did recently change the back brakes and rotors. They're are disks and require that special tool to turn that spreads the calipur back apart. I will definitely say that being a girl and having very little upper body strength....I'll never do it again!!! Other than that, It's great.

Pros: Can be so relaxing to hop in and take a drive...when the weather's right.

Cons: More crap to maintain. More crap to replace.

Great Car — It's a great car, once you give it a little bit of love and care. In ford factory form, well the V6 is definately underpowered, and definately isn't great at handling. It also has an open posi ( 1 tire fire) which makes it not so exciting when you go to do a burnout, or whatevers. luckily, since it is a mustang there is large aftermarket for it, and with some upgrades to the suspension, tires, and motor, you can really bring it back to life.

Pros: great looks, good platform to build on, large aftermarket

Cons: way underpowered from ford, aka slow!

175,000 Miles, Still Gets 110mph Easy-up Mountains-in A 3.8!! — First, Pardon the horrible photo editing. Also, pardon the wax job, I didnt have a camera when this was taken and my baby is back home while Im at school. Alright, this is a 2000 mustang coupe, pretty much base everything. This car is incredible though. Most reliable thing I have ever had, no work done ever-including the clutch, which is still strong. My uncle had this before me, so I know the car's life history. Its sharp, turns heads, scoots well enough for my taste, and is a lot of fun to drive. When I go it, the only thing I didn't like was the stock stereo system in it, but that was easily remedied with some tools, sony explode speakers and unit, and a sunday afternoon. I love the sound of the engine when it starts too, very throaty. Probably the only downside to owning one of these magnificent cars is traction. I have a lot of trouble in the rain and no chance of survival in the snow. Thats the sacrifice one makes when driving an American sports car.

Pros: As mentioned above.

Cons: Also, as mentioned above.

My Car Is Sexy. — I own a 2000 White Ford Mustang standard V6 and I love it. I'm 17 and it was my first car and I've decided that I never want to own another kind of car.

Pros: Fast, sounds great even though it's a V6, nice standard body work.

Cons: 21 mpg highway, awkward seating position (hard to sit the same way twice), don't like the rims.

Fast, loud, And Style — Have the flowmaster 40s, great sound. Wide tires, I love driving this car, I wasnt a big mustang guy but once I bought it I fell in love. I love getting the stares from other people on the road. The car has alot of torque and pulls especially hard at 4 to 5,000 rpms.

Pros: torque, fast, interior, its a mustang

Cons: cant think of any

Unrefined Muscle Car Fun —

My Mustang was stock for all of a week when I first bought it so I can't comment much on that. I put on Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers which give it a borderline obnoxious 70's style rumble throughout the RPMs. As for other performance mods it responds well and gives more noticeable gains than most cars. It's handling, while not great, is predictable at least. It takes a little more attentiveness to park perfectly straight but nothing you can't get used to. The lack of synchros for the reverse gear can lead to some aggravation since no trick I've found works 100% of the time. Clutch pedal effort might be a little too much for some due to the cable clutch setup found in all Mustangs (versus hydraulic clutch standard in most cars) and the upgraded clutch in the '99 and up Mustang GTs required due to the higher power rating. The interior has some squeaks and rattles, but nothing too bothersome and you wouldn't buy a Mustang for luxury anyways. The interior looks good though which is good enough for me. Reliability is so-so. Like all cars it has it's issues. To save money, Ford used plastic Throw Out Bearings in the Clutch Assembly, which typically are lucky to last 40,000 miles. While there are temporary solutions, it's an expensive job to get professionally done and a weekend job for the do-it-yourself crowd. The drive belt tensioner isn't made well, and typically squeals. I'm on number 3 which has just started to squeal and I've only put 10,000 miles on the car.

Pros: Straight-line Acceleration, Looks/Style, Sound, Performance, etc. etc the basics.

Cons: Cheap interior, handling, so-so reliability, lack of synchros for reverse gearing.
