engine is so reliable, one of the best and most stylish M cars ever. My all time favorite. And you can get a 100k+ mile one for a cheap price and still have tons and tons of fun. 10/10 would recommend getting a E39 M5. its a beast!!!!

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: look

Cons: none

2000 Bmw M5 — the car is amazing. with a top speed of 315km/h being pumped out of a non-turbo V8 engine., suade roof liner, and fully loaded leather seats and dash. the price tag aint so bad either. being that it is a 2000 the price has come right down to anywhere from 21,000-35,000. which is pretty cheap for an entry level super car

Pros: the overall performance of the car is spectacular

Cons: it's cost alot of money for parts when it comes to fixing it

Bmw M5 — Excellent car overall. The performance is fantastic. It accelerates smoothly and strongly. The build quality is decent for the most part. It has needed some work recently (new valve cover seals, a/c blower motor) and also the cupholders are worthless, but overall, it's about what you would expect from a German car. The gas mileage isn't great (around 16-18mpg on average), and the maintenance is expensive (but infrequent luckily). However, it's an absolute blast to drive, and there isn't much that comes close to it.

Pros: Performance, Luxury-factor

Cons: Slow navigation system, fuel economy, maintenance costs

Fantastic —

the best car ever made, it is so fast not many cars can keep up with it wen its been de ristricted. very well buit. very refiend, smooth quiet . its more like a luxery family super car. fantastic to drive ( which bmw isnt ) once you drive a m5 there is nothing that can compair. it is legendery. you can sit doing 120mph. with 2 fingers on the wheel. you know exactley whats going on with the car, and there is no drama. many times i drive the long way home. just to drive it. and some times i find my self just going out in the car, just to drive i dont go anywere i just go for a drive. the 5 series bimmer has been rated as the best car in the world, many critics have all said the same. but its not all great. living in the uk. it is expensive on the petrol. but worth every penny. keep away from dealerships when it comes to servicing. they will pull your pants down when things do go wrong it is expensive to fix,but to be fair they dont go wrong often. if your gonna buy a second hand bimmer you cant go wrong with a 5 series. as a car and a machine. there isnt anything i can think of that is better to drive or live with. if you buy one it will become part of your family.

Pros: brilliant to drive, looks stunning, very fast. great handling

Cons: thirsty, expensive spare parts .

The Ultimate Driving Machine — You simply cant have more fun that driving the e39 m5. It can be tuned to your liking and will spank just about every car out there without them knowing what hit them. The cabin is sumptuous, the six speed and handling create confidence. This is the BMW you drive when you want the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fast, comfortable, with a slick six speed. Simply the Ultimate Driving Machine

Cons: Sucks gas, and the 10w _60 oil makes sure that nothing you do to this car is cheap

Fun & Great Handling Just Dont Own One That Isnt Well Maintained. — While not the fastest sedan by todays standards it will still outperform 95% of the cars on the road today after a decade. A very civilized car that does almost everything well however you need to keep up on the maintenance. Cant wait to drive the 2012 M5.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Excellent performance for a 4 door saloon.

Cons: Miantenance...parts are expensive.

Good — BMW m5 E39 was the fastest saloon car in the world when it first came out in 1998 u can buy one for around 6k-15k and they are very fast and entertaining 400bhp 4.9liter engine what pulls insanely quick and will get to 0-60mph in 4.8secounds top speed electronicly limited to 155mph (187 with out the speed limiter) m button what sharpens up the throttle and gear responce and gear change quickness. loads of technology in the car like how much power you want to use sat nav 5inch TV screens etc.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: it is fun and reliable

Cons: none

2000 BMW M5 Review
Nate says:
The Ultimate Dad car! Its everything the M3 wants to be from a performance stand point and you can comfortably fit your family or friends in the back, as well as 3 golf bags in the trunk! (theres actually a diagram in the trunk of how to correctly stowe 3 golf bags). This car was designed for the business owner who still has enough testosterone in his blood to want to get behind the wheel and feel like a race car driver from time to time. Youll be cruiseing down the highway on ramp with two fingers on the wheel sipping your coffee thinking youre doing about 75 when you glance down at the speedo to see youre slowing down to 120! Its comfort over sport every time! But dont let that fool you, its got more sport than the peppy M3 still three car lengths behind trying to keep up. This car has a center arm rest in the rear that folds down and exposes a trap door to the trunk which holds a ski boot that will unfold into the cabin and unzip to hold your skis so that you dont get your leather wet.... Luxury! It also has a fancy REST button on the dash that allows you to turn off the engine and leave your wife and kids in the car in the middle of the winter while you go inside for your $100 bottle of aged whiskey as it pumps residual heat from the engine block into the cabin to maintain whatever temperature range you desire on your independent climate control!..Luxury!! You dont have feel like a yuppy 3 series driver and tint your windows just to keep the sun from baking on the back seats because, of course, this car comes with sun shades on each rear window and an electric sunshade on the rear windshield tied to a switch that comes and down as you please... Luxury!! The M5 doesnt feel like a toy the way the M3 does with its light doors and hood, this car has nice heavy doors with stitched leather and wood grain running all along them and the dash, you feel like a successful business man when you drive this car and unlike the M3, the police tend to recognize and assume your social status in the M5 and leave you alone. The s62 motor is the same motor as the 540 only its bored over and stroked to 4.9 liter, better set of cams, dual vanos on intake and exhaust, independent throttle bodies on all 8 cylinders (sounds better than any other V8 ever made!) and 2 intakes instead of one. All said and done it takes the m62 (540) with 282hp and 325tq and turns it into 394hp and 365tq. An absolutely stunning motor, same cooling issues as the 540, mainly avoidable with preventative maintenance, not a big concern. Also has the same WATERCOOLED alternator (whyyyyyyyy????!!!!) Like any other 400hp german v8 in history, the S62 does tend to drink a little oil, they all do it... every single one! Its not something you can avoid and for the performance and reliability you get out of it, its not something you need to lose sleep over. Keep an eye on it add a little every now and then and keep smiling. Best car I ever had!

Family Car Ranked 2003 BMW M3 worse.
"You can actually comfortably seat people behind you, the trunk is huge, the car doesnt shake at high speeds the ride is wayy more smooth. The sound dampening is so incredible that you can run a straight pipe all the way out and still have a quiet conversation inside the car. Or on the other hand, you can wait for the wife to get off the phone with her friend outside the car while you blast the radio as loud as it goes and shell hardly hear it. The REST button pumps in residual heat from the engine block through the cabin to keep the family warm while the car is off and you are in the store. Its pretty decent in the snow, dont even try that in the m3 and it has rear sunshades to keep the baby from baking in the sun on road trips. Just to brush the surface, there is so much more. Buy the M3 while youre in school, graduate with the M5."
