How much does the 2025 BMW M5 cost?

Prices have softened 8.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 170 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 BMW M5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M5 earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.

It stands out as a plug-in hybrid performance sedan that can deliver 717 horsepower while also offering up to 25 miles of all-electric driving. That makes it appealing if you want a car that can feel brutally quick and still handle short daily commutes in a calmer, more efficient way.

The trade-offs are real: the exhaust is too quiet for a performance car, and the ride is too harsh for a luxury sedan. Even so, the M5’s mix of speed, agility, and everyday usability gives you a rare dual-purpose package.

37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2025 BMW M5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M5 is presented as a highly capable, well-rounded performance sedan with strong everyday usability, but it also brings the complexity of a plug-in hybrid powertrain and high-performance hardware.

Its expert summary emphasizes that it is a compelling performance car with a major redesign and a first-ever plug-in hybrid setup, which points to a sophisticated but ambitious package. The performance notes also highlight smooth power delivery in electric-only driving and a drivetrain that blends the electric motor with the conventional transmission without major drama.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the M5 delivers a compelling mix of performance, space, and luxury, and that the standard equipment level is substantial. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a high-output hybrid performance sedan can be expensive to keep in top shape if prior maintenance was neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with this much performance hardware and hybrid complexity. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s equipment and driving aids are functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin uses a large single screen, iDrive controller, and customizable interior lighting, while the exterior styling is highly subjective. The base setup already includes a strong equipment list, so you should pay attention to whether the car has the features you want rather than assuming a higher trim is necessary.
• Powertrain: The M5 combines a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor and a 14.8-kWh battery pack for a total of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. It can drive on electricity alone for up to 25 miles, and the standard xDrive all-wheel drive system helps manage the output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, speed limit info, blind-spot monitoring, and Parking Assistant with backup assist and a 360-degree camera system. The Driving Assistant Professional package adds side collision protection, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: The car uses iDrive 8.5 on a 14.9-inch center screen. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB-C outlets front and rear, and an iDrive controller for easier navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The car can travel up to 25 miles on electric power alone, and the test-drive notes mention around 14 mpg during spirited use.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $114,681, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW M5's resale value?

The current average of $114,987 sits slightly below last year's $125,474.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward from earlier levels, which can help you buy with less immediate depreciation risk than you would have faced a year ago. If you plan to sell later, the M5’s strong enthusiast appeal and limited supply can help support demand, but its resale value will still depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the current average is still close to the year-round low, you may have less room for further short-term price drops than you would in a softer segment. For a future seller, that means buying well now matters: the better your purchase price, the easier it is to protect your equity later.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.36% compared with last year.
• It delivers a major redesign with a first-ever plug-in hybrid powertrain and standout everyday usability.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It mainly adds a more powerful onboard charger and more paint options.

The bottom line: If you want the biggest leap in design and powertrain character, the 2025 is the key year to target. If you’re price-sensitive and the 2026’s small updates don’t matter to you, the 2025 should be the smarter buy because it captures the major redesign while the market has already softened.
