Is the 2025 BMW M5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M5 earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.

It’s built for you if you want a sedan that can deliver brutal acceleration, impressive dynamics, and daily usability in the same package. The plug-in hybrid setup adds a calmer all-electric driving mode for short trips, while the cabin and controls are described as solidly assembled and thoughtfully arranged.

The trade-offs are real: the exhaust is too quiet for a performance car, the ride leans too harsh for a luxury car, and the design may not be for everyone.

36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s a meaningful share of attractive offers in the market.

Is the 2025 BMW M5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M5 is presented as a highly capable, heavily engineered performance sedan with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and standard all-wheel drive, so it’s built around a complex but modern mechanical package.

Its performance setup combines a twin-turbo V8, an electric motor, and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the electric side can support short all-electric driving. That kind of hardware gives you breadth and speed, but it also means you should expect more complexity than you’d find in a simpler sedan.

BMW also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-performance plug-in hybrid with this much hardware can be expensive to keep in top shape if it hasn’t been maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with this much performance hardware and hybrid complexity. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s equipment and driving-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin uses a large single-screen layout, iDrive controller, and extensive interior lighting features, while the standard equipment list is already rich. Base cars still bring a lot, so you should compare equipment carefully before paying more for appearance or convenience upgrades.
• Powertrain: The M5 pairs a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor and all-wheel drive, and it can drive on electricity for up to 25 miles. It’s brutally quick, but the ride and soundtrack are tuned more toward performance than comfort.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, speed limit info, blind-spot monitoring, and Parking Assistant with backup assist and a 360-degree camera. Driving Assistant Professional adds adaptive cruise control, side collision protection, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: You get a 14.9-inch center screen with iDrive 8.5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB-C outlets, and wireless charging. The system is smooth, but there is a learning curve.
• Fuel efficiency: The M5 can travel up to 25 miles on electric power alone, and the tester saw around 14 mpg during mixed driving.

Which 2025 BMW M5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M5 is offered in 1 trim level: M5.

Here's the short version:

The M5: is the one to buy if you want the full experience without overthinking the lineup, because the standard car already includes AWD, rear-wheel steering, and a strong safety and tech package. It’s the best-value choice by default since there isn’t a broader trim ladder to climb.

BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional package is optional, while Parking Assistant is standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW M5?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 98.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $115,930, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW M5's resale value?

The current average of $115,930 sits slightly below last year's $126,039.

That decline suggests the market has already moved in buyers’ favor, which can help you get into the car at a more reasonable entry point. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect depreciation pressure to remain part of the ownership equation.

Because the M5 is a high-performance, high-cost sedan, resale will likely depend heavily on mileage, condition, and how well the car was optioned and maintained. A clean, well-kept example should hold up better than one that shows heavy use or deferred upkeep.

Is the 2025 BMW M5 safe?

The 2025 BMW M5 has not been tested by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, speed limit info, blind-spot monitoring, and Parking Assistant with backup assist and a 360-degree camera. BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, side collision protection, and Traffic Jam Assistant for hands-free driving at up to 40 mph in stop-and-go traffic.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.02% compared with last year.
• It delivers the redesigned M5’s first-ever plug-in hybrid powertrain and major performance-versus-usability balance.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds a more powerful onboard charger and more paint choices.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2025 if you want the redesigned M5 experience and a better chance at finding a deal. If you’re price-sensitive and the 2025’s current inventory fits your budget, that’s the smarter path; if you mainly want the latest small updates, the 2026 is the incremental alternative.
