Porsche - There Is No Substitute — Great speed and awesome handling. Great looking car with the top up and tremendous with the top down. Ooooo ya! The car is so good the Germans even drive it in the winter months. Have to admit - it did touch snow and was great since the engine is ove the drive wheels.

Pros: Speed

Cons: PArt prices

1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (996) — The porsche 911 is a wonderful car, able to blend practicality and performance into one user-friendlt package. The steering is unbelievably communicative and the suspension provides ample feedback without sacrificing confort. The flat six, while docile around town, revs up without hesitation or jerkiness.

Pros: best performance car I've ever owned

Cons: Want to drive it all the time

1999 Carrera Coupe Was Impressive To A 16yr Old — It had the carbon fiber interior package, aero package, and 18in turbo wheels. The car handled excellent and the 296hp felt like about 350hp.

Pros: great handling, plenty of power, very good looking

Cons: black was hard to keep clean.....

More Looks Than Goes — The "there is no substitute" for a Porsche is completely overrated. The car performs...but it can perform better.

Pros: Looks...

Cons: Could use more power and less UNDERsteer

Awesome. Everyone Should At Least Drive One For A Day — Power, Prestige and Precision ! Just drive an AWD Cabriolet n u too will be hooked. Oh, n leave the tiptronic at the dealership, otherwise maybe you should be looking at a Prius. Sorry if I sound a little biased, but it really has been a pleasure driving this 911. I have the hardest time putting it in the garage.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Everything you'd expect

Cons: Can't think of any

The Porsche 911 Cab Is Perfect For Getting To And From Work. — This Porsche is my daily driver and has never been on the track. It doesn't require a lot of maintenance but I have had to repair a few of the gadgets. This is most likely because of the age of the vehicle. I upgraded the stereo to a Kenwood touchscreen navigation unit. The exterior is purple (vesuvio metallic) and the interior is black. I have the hard top which only stays on during the winter as driving with the top down is so much fun! This 911 drives like a dream! When I want to accelerate I push down on the gas pedal. It doesn't hesitate in the least almost as if it wants to go faster! I very rarely drive over the speed limit posted but do enjoy getting from 0 to the speed limit as quickly as I want to. The handling is perfect for a car this size and the brakes are heavy enough to assist as needed. I have owned several sports cars and this one has been my favorite in every single way.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's a Stuttgart Porsche! It is never hesitant and is more than fun with the top up or down.

Cons: The interior is small and the rear seats are all but useless. It is okay to run to town with the kids in the back seat but forget about the weekend getaway (unless its just the two of you) as they are just too uncomfortable.

Once You Go Porsche... —

Some people complain about the water-cooled engines that came out in 1998, and since it was a new engine this car may have had problems. This car (mine at over 111,000 miles now) is still running great, shifting well, and looks just as hot as any of the newer models. We havent had engine problems (yet) and the car has been tot he same dealer since it was born and it's history is squeaky, so I dont think it ever had any engine problems, despite the hoopla about the engines in these. It gets a lot of reaction (and it's not just because I'm a girl). I hear people walk by the house when it's parked out front and comment on it all the time, or when I'm in a coffee shop and people stop to check it out outside. The backseats really are tiny. I have a picture on here where my brother is in the backdseat - he's not much taller than me (I'm 5'2") and he looks like a against back there (and he barely fits - only because he's sitting behind me and my seat is up). When my husband drives the car the front seat is back so far there is no leg room for a backseat passenger on the driver's side. Trunk space is ok - it's enough to fit a 12-pack of toilet paper or two cases of beer with a little room to spare. It could also potentially fit a small rollerbag or a gym duffel bag. Any of these things will fit with a little room to spare on top (maybe 12 inches). Larger suitcases will not fit. If you must, you can put a larger suitcase in the backseat with the top down. Really, this car is a wet dream, despite being 1999.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Handles spectacularly, looks hot - even kids have that visceral "look mom it's a Porsche! reaction (it's happened several times), purrs like a kitty

Cons: Typical convertible issues - plastic window hard to see through, large blind spots when top is up. Since it's older it doesnt have an auxillary port to plug in an MP3 player or phone.
