Great Balance Of Practical And Fun. — This is a great, practical, and reliable vehicle. For the price it's one of the best deals on the used car market. With a powerful and torquey V6 and the 5-speed manual transmission, you have power in almost any gear whenever you need it, and plenty of passing power in 5th gear on the highway. The car gets great mileage for a V6, looks great but doesn't draw unneeded attention to itself. Very roomy interior, with power windows and locks standard.

Pros: Great mileage, torquey V6, manual transmission, sleeper, 4-wheel discs, cold A/C

Cons: Front wheel drive, no ABS, no sunroof

Tank — While I may be stuck with it for the time being, this thing is a testament to Japanese reliability. Transmission laster 225,000 miles before I swapped in a new one, and motor is still running strong.

Pros: Reliable

Cons: Slow, not a S2000

'96 Maxima, A Decent Car For High Mileage Used Cars — Good driving car, great Bose stereo system, comfortable for trips and around town. Gas mileage is OK for a '97, averages about 20 mpg. But, It's not a Toyota. It has given me some trouble, had to replace both oxygen sensors, then that did not do the trick, needed a new unit that controls the sensors. It failed smog until more sensors were replaced in the exhaust system.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Good driving car, great Bose stereo system, comfortable for trips and around town.  Gas mileage is OK for a '97, averages about 20 mpg.

Cons: It's not a Toyota.  It has given me some trouble, had to replace both oxygen sensors, then that did not do the trick, needed a new unit that controls the sensors.  It failed smog until more sensors were replace in the exhaust system.

Wow — in some time in my life, i had to buy a car at the price of 1000$ . At this price you don't really expect to have a great car that is fun to drive, have good performance, with a good comfort but I read a lot about some cars and i learn that the nissan maxima of this car was an exelent car so i started to look a some old maxima and then i found mine and i don't regret my choice because it's an exelent car with an amazing engine

Pros: amazing car

Cons: the only thin i don't like of this car is the look of it it doesn't look comfortable

1996 Nissan Maxima GLE Review
Jordan says:
I bought a used 96 Maxima GLE about 20 years ago. From the day I got it, I was completely satisfied with it. It had been treated well before I got it, and the basic engineering and components were sound. It is not heart-pounding in its acceleration, but it is quicker than most off the line, and has good power throughout the gears. I never hit the gas and was disappointed in the response. Handles very well. Seats, moonroof, windows, cruise, seat and door mirror heaters worked without issue throughout. Seats 5 relatively comfortably. Some initial issues with the DEQ computer and false failures, but once it was fixed (over 15 years ago) no troubles at all. If I lived in a bigger house I would never have sold it - it was still a fun car to drive at 180,000 miles. It was just a bit too large a carbon footprint for someone with my driving habits - I gave it up for an electric. I recommend these cars highly, as does Consumer Reports, I believe.

Family Car Ranked 2006 INFINITI M35 x AWD worse.
"Feels like the interior compartment is designed with space, rather than aerodynamics in mind. Its more open. I think it also has more cargo room, but Im not sure."
Would Buy Ranked 2006 INFINITI M35 x AWD worse.
"Price and practicality. If it were just for me, I would buy a used Infiniti - but for my family, the Maxima is simply more practical."
