1996 Cadillac Seville Overview
The Cadillac Seville caught its breath in 1996 after going through some serious changes the previous few years. The only new aspects to the midsize sedan revolved around minor adjustments to the dashboard and interior. The 1996 Seville comes in 2 trims: the SLS and the sportier STS. Both trims use a 4.6 L V8 engine with 4 speed automatic transmission. The SLS packs 275 horses under its hood while the STS packs 300 hp.
Other features have stayed the same from previous years. Gas consumption runs from 17 mpg in the city to 26 mpg on the highway. The '96 Seville seats 5 and has 4 doors. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, and ABS brakes. Sunroof comes optional on both trims. Leather seats come standard on the STS.
Overall, it appears that Seville owners have a choice to make. The car performs and handles as well as it always has. However, drivers report oil leakage and mechanical problems after a few years of use. Make sure to do your homework before you buy a used Seville.

Oil Sending Unit
How do I install the oil pressure sending unit?
Tom I bought a 96 Seville from my neighbor who was the original owner. It has over 250,000 miles and looks GREAT! Then I had trouble passing the California smog, finally squeaked by that after over $600 of mechanical tweaking then it started the intermittent overheating problem and now I am over 2 months into that issue and still trying to resolve it. I love the ride, the feel, the looks and the size and power of the car but I can NOT depend on it to get me more than about 20 miles with out some overheating concern. I haven't given up yet but it is driving me nuts too!
Awit8 My grandfather passed me my Seville for taking care of him since I was old enough to no longer need him as a babysitter. It had 42,000 miles on it now 9 years later it has 112,000. The car still rides smooth even though I've taken it places it was never meant for camping, it's hill climbed and it's driven 300+ mile trips in a day on many occasions. I have had to put a lot of money into fixing issues related to leaky seals on everything from the radiator to the power steering pump. But this car has been driven on tarmac, gravel, snow, dirt you name it. It has always preformed and never felt too weak or loose to get the job done. It's a boat but it's an amazing car for almost any use if you can look past the poor gas millage and leaky valve stems all Northstars have issues with. I admit however that being a cadi and a Northstar engine to boot nothing is cheap to work on. Don't forget to always buy manufacturers tablets to put in the radiator every time you add coolant either, little tips and tricks are knowledge that is perquisite to driving this car but if you have it this car can be kept in relatively good and dependable condition.
