Its An Ok Car — It would be better if things didnt keep going wrong. eg. Internal radiator leaking, exhaust falling off, tyres keep on losing pressure, fuel gauge not working properly. Appart from them things its a brilliant car. Pros: Its pretty fast for a 12year old car Cons: It is costing me a fortune! ![]() Looking for a Used Golf in your area?CarGurus has 930 nationwide Golf listings starting at $4,100. |

Fun To Drive, Reliable, Long-running Car, But Getting Old. — I love my 1995 VW golf (named Scarlett). It's over 210,000 miles right now and still runs well. It is small, fast, and fun to drive, economical, cheap and easy to fix, reliable, easy to park, has a fantastic turning radius (U-Turn on a narrow city streets for a parking place? No problem!), can carry more than many suvs (I've packed it with 25 18" CMUs at Home Depot), comes in red, low maintenance cost, running great at over 210,000 miles, can drive several 12-hour days at 70-miles per hour with no problems. If it wasn't getting dowdy looking and smelly inside I'd keep driving it forever. Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: Small, fast, fun to drive, economical, easy to fix, reliable, easy to park, easy to see out of, moderate road noise, great gas mileage, great acceleration due to smooth 5-speed manual, fantastic turning radius, can carry more than many SUVs, comes in red, low maintenance cost, running great at over 210,000 miles. Safe for my baby, who is now 10. Enough rear seat space to accommodate adults up to 6', but more comfortable for up to 5'8". Cons: At 1995, getting old. At 210,000 getting "well used". All VWs smell funny when old, exterior trim falls off sides and has to be reset at a body shop, red paint fades (had it repainted for $500 at Macco in about 2009 and looks great now), exterior window strip has rust, no rear window wiper. Had a persistent timing problem around 120K miles (might have been persistent mechanic problem). Develops oil leaks that are repairable. Dashboard light went out and was difficult to access to replace. Cold winter days (under 38) make it complain when it starts. Burning more oil than it did before (half-quart to quart a month). Probably about 20 City of Seattle parking stickers inside drivers and passenger window; as a result driver's window is sticky. Manual roll down windows mean leaning across to roll down passenger windows for those who assume all windows are electronic. VW famous for inadequate cup holders. |

V Dub — only had it 9 days so far , but in those few days its been great , the handling is abit wobbly but then again its not the sport version and the power makes it a nippy lil car , more to follow soon , minor problem with the idle control valve which has been sorted out , starter motor went which was changed now running smooth , been given a full service and had new exhaust . plus its been fitted with a set of black 17 inch allloys . Primary Use: Family transportation Pros: i like everything so far :) Cons: boat like handling which a decent sports suspension kit will fix :) |
