A Good Sturdy Starting Car For Anyone, But Freeway Driving Is Hell. — So this was my first car, old, lots of miles, practically a tank, and it drove like one too. The power steering was pretty bad. But it was a good old car. Would I drive one again? Hell no. It was a starting car, and that's about all it was good for.

Pros: Reliable, big, lots of cargo room

Cons: horrible steering, poor mileage, not really a looker.

I'm Not Reviewing My Cars... Just Listing Them — It was a fun car, limited edition, and it had dual center of gravities, just depended how you sat in it. If you sit in it right, you'll feel the real center of gravity. Never rolled it, 4 wheel slides, off roading, 4x4, i forced the thing to jump back and forth from offroad truck to ricer all the time, just too bad it didn't have any pick up to go with it.

Pros: lots and lots of room, solid chasis

Cons: slow as hell... no acceleration

Nice Ride, But Ford Problems. — Was a smooth ride, handled nice. However tranny problems. As with most Fords I imagine. Good value

Pros: Nice to drive, roomy and comfy.

Cons: Bad on gas.

Just What The Doctor Ordered — I needed a second vechile which offered moderate gas mileage with the torque to tow a small trailer to tradr shows and this rocks the world of what i needed.

For It's Third Year Of Production, It Is Remarkably Agile And Reliable. — This car has shown that a car can only get better with age, as it never struggles with reaching the 6000rpm mark. I consistently out accelerate other cars, all the while the brakes and suspension handle remarkably at high speeds, considering this is a SUV after all. The outside of the car is still beautiful, even with all of the scrapes and dents from almost 13 years on the road. What's even more remarkable is that the thing had gone through one wreck, that I know of ( it was bought used). With simple upkeep it has gone relatively unscathed. The engine/transmission combo is superb, especially for a V6/automatic. This fact only magnifies the incredible engineering that Ford put into it. The interior is inline with its contemporaries and is very comfortable, especially considering its age.

Pros: fast, confident, good looking

Cons: MPG, ride (both typical of SUVs, so I was not disappointed)

2d 4wd Suv — For a small vehicle it handles great off-road and going into the mountains. It is good at taking corners and going high speeds quickly. The brakes work exceptionally well. It's a fun little vehicle to drive and I would recommend this car to someone who likes driving off-road.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: It's a great off-road vehicle

Cons: Manual hubs

A Good Vehicle If You Dont Have Kids. — The exploer I had was a basic model with a 5 speed transmition. It stopped pretty good and had sufficient power it being a manual it seemed better than my cousin automatic. Rhe four wheel drive had to use monthly or the auto lock outs would stick.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: This was a good vehicle until i had children the two doors didnt work so well.

Cons: Theres nothing to really complain about this vehicle it ran good and worked good.

Best Vehicle Ever Owned — Has provided 7 years of reliable use with $ spent on exhaust, some body work, battery, wheel bearing and 4WD maintenance. Have owned longer than all previous vehicles owned and would keep except for body rust. Enough power from 4L V-6 for my use. Great visibility for driver and very maneuverable in tight spots. Not great on deteriorating paved roads.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Comfortable, flexible use, reliable

Cons: Poor economy, rust shows after 10 years

says:
The first generation Explorer is my favourite American car. It is rugged and reliable. It is easy to maintain. It is powered by a legendary Cologne OHV 4.0L V6. The electronic 4x4 system works great, but since it is a more traditional drive system, it limits the steering capability of the vehicle. The fact that the drive system is older makes it more rugged and trusty. This truck confidently and safely got me through blinding snowstorms in Upstate NY. The seats are comfortable and I have a bad back, so if I say its comfortable, Im not lying. I would buy another First Gen Explorer without hesitation.

Handling Ranked 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee worse.
"I havent tested the Jeep GRand Cherokees off=road or winter driving capabilities, but I have driven the Explorer in both and it handled very well. Also, the Explorer has a very tight turning radius and I am impressed by its maneuverability."
Value Ranked 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee better.
"It has the word Jeep on it. That commands a higher resale value."
