1993 Toyota Camry SE V6Review

Not A Bad Car — It's too bad Toyota doesn't make fun cars anymore. Not that this car was a blast, but it was nice to be able to have a V6 sedan with a stick from Toyota. You can barely find their "sport sedan" Lexus IS with a stick nowadays. Anyway, the '93 Camry SE was a good car, built solid with a strong engine built to last. It was a decent size, not too big but not too small. If you are in teh market for one check for rust behind the wheels, especially if the car has mud-flaps installed.

Pros: V6 and manual tranny sedan from Toyota.  Reliability.

Cons: Rust!

Great — I'm pushing 200k and the engine is going strong, would like to do some minor body and suspension work but this car is solid

Pros: Reliable, comfortable, and parts are relatively inexpensive

Cons: climate control backlights are unservicable

Great Car, I Miss It — I bought this car it rear-ended another vehicle. The owner didn't want to pay to have it fixed so I bought it cheap. A few parts from the salvage yard and a new paint job made this car look like new. The car was loaded, it was fantastic inside and out. The interior was great quality, easy to clean and it still looked new on the day I sold it. The car had about 150K miles on it when I sold it and it would move. The engine had a lot of pep, it was great around town. It was a great cruiser also, it was heavier than the new cars are and it was longer, more weight made this car handle the road like a dream. I sold the car because it was getting high mileage and I thought a new car would be better. I wish I had never sold it and just bought a new engine for it when that one crapped out. I loved this car, it was in great shape and drove better than my new one does.

This Car Is What I Call A Car.its Performance Is Just Great. — I have always wanted a camry. Now that i have one,i have no regrets. The interior is really super, but what i like most about this car is the power of the engine.I know that there are other v6s to surpass the camry, but i love my toyota.

A Strong Work Horse To Rely On... —

The 1993 Toyota camry has a grand look from the outside, its a car you'll love without a prior knowledge but on a closer look, you may be disappointed if you are a car freak. I thought i had the best buy until i used it and just after 6 months i'm tired of the car. I insited on a V6 engine thinking i can enjoy the power such an engine brings but it lacks good acceleration. i feel bad when i have to be competing with regular 4 cylinder engines despite the fact i'm burning more fuel. It's a bad car to drive at night, the lights don't see nothing unlike the Honda. The interior is simple though but okay for a 1993 model, the unfoldable mirror is a disadvantage in a horrible traffic city like Lagos, Nigeria. The doors don't have any resistance and so a slight shut give a sound like it was slammed by eight hefty men. Its not all a bad car, its got good qualities too like a balanced and quiet ride and the a/c system is impressive. The self diagnostic feature is very nice too and takes a lot of stress of the user if you have the manual. The car is very rugged, after 109,000 miles of hard driving, it is still waxing stronger and it nevers gives up, with proper maintenance its a car that can take the heat of a hard way.

Pros: balanced, smooth and quiet ride, large trunk, good a/c system, strong and rigid body.

Cons: disappointing acceleration, poor lights, simple interior.

200000+ Miles And Still Running. — I have gone through a ford 3 chevys and a dodge in the same timeframe with multiple garage visits to include brake jobs transmission failures, etc. I think it is time for American car makers to get a clue

Great Little 93 Manual 5-speed Camry Dx — In it's day it was a medium sized commute car, but now it's an economy car compared to the newer Camrys. Also have a 2000 Camry XE and wife has a 2006 LE which make the 1993 looks ultra simple to maintain and service. Book may say it's not worth anything, but on-the-street pricing is between $2500-$2600 in my area on auto sales sites whether dealer or private sale.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: 310,000 miles and counting... past replacements:  a/c compressor, starter, distributor (twice), brake and clutch cylinders, radiator, fuel filter, fuel pump, wheel bearings, still have original starter

Cons: small oil leak persists despite non-mechanical solutions--use oil sealant (heavy duty kinds);  probably seal around oil pump is leaking slowly (same problem in 1992-2002 models); can ignore if you put some clay absorbant (cat littler works) where the drip area persists.

Best Investment I Have Ever Made ($50) — Since I last wrote my review on my car, I explained how I had been in a wreck due to rainy conditions and the lack of ABS. The car is now repaired and in the process I was able to modify some cosmetics that I think made the car look better than before. The car still starts without any hesitation, shifts smoothly, runs quietly and responsively and has been extremely dependable. I think this is a great car for the money. Another thing that may be worth mentioning, is more of an inconvenience at times.. but the steering is belt driven, so when or if I drive through a puddle big enough, It takes unnecessary effort to turn a corner. There aren't many negatives about the car, and I plan on still driving this car untill it dies, It now has 194,750 miles.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Smooth ride, nice features, attractive lexus-like styling, well designed

Cons: no ABS, no passenger airbag
