In 1990, Ford released its 25th anniversary models, claiming that the first Mustang was a 1964 1/2 model year. Good to know that Ford rounds up.
Regardless, there were 2000 Emerald Green GT convertibles with white leather interiors available to celebrate. A rumor that Ford would be bringing back at 351-ci engine proved false, and the Boss would remain part of history.
Other changes for the 1990 Ford Mustang included the bumping of the speedometer from one rated to 85 mph to one listing numbers up to 140 mph. Available engines to achieve these speeds were the base 2.3-liter I4 which produced 88 horsepower, and the ever-popular 5.0-liter V8 H0, producing 225 horsepower.

I owned mine for over 30 years. Only problems were a tendency to overheat on long summer road trips which was fixed with an oversize radiator upgrade and the automatic transmission leaked from the solenoids almost from the day it left the showroom floor. May 20, 2020

my mustang is fast and sharp. weekly waxing, well maintained and nice cruising car.runs great, never leaks, new tires , brakes new transmission, new p/s pump, new radiator, easy to maintain, taxes and insurance cheaper , doesnt hurt your wallet on fuel, small gas tankMay 18, 2012

overall a very nice vehicle to just play with. Many add ons and not your average stang. Low maintenance not to many problems out of it. Great on straight aways but not so well in cornering unless you drift it. : )

Car had good acceleration for a 302 HO 5 speed. Braking was great and handling was good. The rust monster had gotten ahold of it though and the unibody was rotting apart so I had to get rid of it. The convertible was great when it was down, but with just over 100 thousand miles on it the automatic top motor was shot and made it difficult to get the top up and down. I love the styling of the mid 80s to early 90s Mustangs though convertible or not. Gas mileage was not too bad considering what it was, but as with most cars or trucks after 100k they start wanting more and more money to repair odds and ends. Well worth the money to buy one of these in my opinion.Nov 16, 2011

This was an awesome car! Daily driver, It had Stock Heads, Cam and Intake. With bolt ons only (ie. 3.73 gears, full exhaust, intake spacer, fuel pressure regulator, control arms, subframe connectors, pulleys etc...), it went 12.99 @ 105.05mph on M/T ET Streets. performance is ok.... just need to be modified. 225hp stock at the crank is not alot for todays standards. if you take care of them right and maintance them as recomended , they can last forever. but its a fun car to drive . the foxbodys are lightweight.... so i guess thats a better advantage compared to the newer style mustangs 1994-2004..Jun 02, 2010

Fast car, Strong engine. Only mod is the flowmaster exhaust. Transmission began to go out but its not a big deal. Expensive to insure, but is always fun to drive. This car has never failed to start, fires up every time!May 24, 2010

Love this car, long live the five oh! Great styling inside and out. Solid performance, very enjoyable to drive. While the car is getting dated in performance it's very upgradeable with strong aftermarket support and it's easy to work on. These cars are getting rare where I live so it's nice to have a Mustang everyone else doesn't have. I will never get rid of this car.Mar 17, 2010

Quick acceleration but with the 55/45 F/R it understeered too much for corners and then when the rear shocks went out the handling got even worse. The T5 transmissions are weak, even the World Classes. I've got through 2 of them in just a couple years and I had a stock 5.0 with pulleys, custom (I guess you can call it that) AC delete, Air pump delete, and the only vacuum line left was the one going to the brake booster. Factory suspension is so high it literally looks like it has a lift kit so that was unappealing. I wanted to set the engine back 8-10" with a custom firewall, double wishbone front suspension with a decoupled torque arm rear suspension, Saleen air dam and side skirts with GT rear bumper cover and Cobra wing. And paint it with the Panda Tureno type paint job since the AE86 (Levin) and Foxbody Mustang share a lot in appearance.Dec 29, 2009

This is my girl. A quality vehicle with a surprisingly comfy
interior. The 4 banger is slow, but gets good mpg and is a
great platform to build off of, let it be a motor swap or boost.
So far I haven't had any problems, but I'm gonna be safe nad
replace the brake pads because I can feel em going, and

Sporty fun to drive easy to repair lots of easy install parts to make the proformance improve. Depends on your age the insurance is a little high. the car is fun an fast to drive stands up to the punishment that you give it if maintained right.Sep 19, 2009

One of my favorite cars I have ever owned. Lots of fun to modify. 200,000 + miles. Bolt on heaven the car was lost to a house fire with my 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback 289 Hi-po 4 spd. Replaced it with a 91 hatchback that was once a 4 cylinder but converted to a 331 stroker, 5 spd TKO, 8.8, and Aerospace Engineering 4 wheel disc brakes. Griggs 4 link and Coil over + tubular a-arms. I have owned 3 other Fox body Mustangs prior to the one I currently own, I have always been a Ford fanatic, and have always been in love with Mustang 5.0's. They are the fastest cars you can buy for the money!! My current Stang is a mint condition Lx Hatch, I bought it 5 months ago. It has great performance/handling, it's rock solid, it's a very hot looking car inside/outside, the insurance rates are decent, the gas mileage is great for a performance V-8, it's a blast to drive.... My car is meant to go in a staight line, VERY quickly. 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers comparible to most supercars....The comparison ends there!!!! Try to take this thing on a road course and you will end up on your lid!!!
The car is in excellent shape and very reliable other than typical drag car issues..blown gaskets, worn tires, etc.
Gas mileage is absolute crap..but hey, I smoke vette's with the thing so who cares??? If I wanted gas mileage, my fun car would be a Honda. I'd rather eat glass.
The car is an absolute blast to drive...If you like speed, loud over- cammed American V-8's. I highly recommend one.Oct 06, 2008

This is the 1990 limited 7up edition Mustang. It was originally a poopy automatic, but had that changed to a 5 speed & its a night & day difference. Really woke the car up. This summer I'm hoping to get the top replaced (its beyond shot), & putting a better motor in it. I love rolling along about 15-20 mph & stabbing the gas; it puts the car sideways. Basically this is the last generation mustang until 2005 that i care to acknowledge. Look sweet even when thrashed :) 302's are some of the best sounding V8's on the market. It was a beaten car so it didnt last my friend too long, but it wasn't bad overall.Mar 27, 2008

Being the base model for this car, it exceeds every aspect you would think about. It's not gonna run a 10 second quarter, and you definately won't see even close to 200 mph (although i've seen about 140 as a top end), but it will put up a good fight at least. However, its shining moment, without a doubt, is when you tell it to turn. If you arent ready for it, the only thing keeping you in the car is the door. This car will just plain out-turn any other car i've ever had the privilage to ride in, with one exception. A dodge viper (but that's a whole new class of car). Overall, this is a good car. It gets just over 20mpg in town and mid to upper 20's out on the open road. It is a little small if you have more than one friend, however...Mar 02, 2008

Fox bodied mustangs have been around since 1979 however they are still eye catchers and can be had for a reasonable amount of money. My mustang is a 1990 and is currently 17 years old. It still drives like new. This is my first convertible and I love it. The 5.0 V8 is very strong and the car handles very well for a convertible. Interior wind noise is a little high at highway speeds and thats to be expected being a convertible. Seating is comfortable however the seats don't go back far enough for tall people such as myself. Fit and finish is good but not outstanding. Overall this is a great affordable convertible that anyone can own and enjoy without going broke. Jan 24, 2007
