The 1990 extended Turbo Cargo Van, was the same as the Cargo Van, but with a 2.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine, reaching 150-hp. Like the Cargo Van, it only had seating for two, and came standard with power brakes and steering, tinted windows, and bucket seats. Air conditioning and power windows and locks were optional.
The C/V was basically targeted at hauling large loads rather than specifically a family car, though it did seat five fairly comfortably. Inside, the options were few, but functional. It got 18/24 mpg.

The Cargo Van differed from the other Grand Caravans in that it only had one row of seating, to provide that much extra cargo space for heavy-duty hauling. The extended version added 12 more inches to the regular Cargo Van. Standard engine was the 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder, 150-hp, coupled with a 3-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed manual. Fuel economy was relatively good for a minivan in the base version, at 18/24.
Standard features in the three-door minivan included bucket seats, tinted windows, 15-inch wheels, and power brakes. Cupholders and lots of storage compartments were a hallmark of the Grand Caravan, and one of the features that owners praise. The Grand Caravan is particularly popular for its extra room in what already is a spacious minivan.

The 1990 Grand Caravan SE is the next line up from the Cargo Van model and comes standard with a bigger engine, a 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6 and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 3-door minivan is built on a 119-inch wheelbase and offers nearly a foot more cargo room than the Caravan.
The seven-passenger SE comes standard with power steering and brakes, 15-inch wheels, remote trunk release, and tinted windows. Options include air conditioning and power window and locks, and unlike the Cargo Van, you could get a sunroof. Drivers love the powerful 3.3 V6 engine and the stable handling, as well as the comfortable interior. They don't like fairly frequent transmission problems.

The high-end trim of the 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan comes with more luxuries than the STD and SE trims, although it sports the same 3.3-liter, 150-hp V6 engine, which makes the Grand Caravan an energetic grocery hauler.
In addition to the SE's standard features, the LE offers center and overhead consoles (including a compass and thermometer), air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks, power side mirrors, and a roof rack with 150-pound capacity. Three rows of seating and lots of cupholders, plus the extra storage space that a Grand Caravan brings, are all high points. Drivers of all Grand Caravans point out the difficulty of removing the rear seat, transmission problems, and peeling paint.
