1985 Mazda 626Review

Very Very Good Car — Had it since 1986, and the only thing things that have gone wrong in 22 years are the (German-built) starter motor (ironic? the only thing to break on a Japanese car is the part thats German :P) and the heater. Everything else still works! It has done 200 000km's of urban, stop-start mileage in traffic (not much highway mileage) and is still on the original clutch! Brilliant build-quality and features, even by modern standards (aircon, electric windows, electric mirrors, power steering, 12-way adjustable seat with memory function, fold-down rear seats, radio-tape etc). Also exceptionally reliable and a good highway cruiser. The carburettor models do suffer from typical "80's" underwhelming performance and fuel economy, although there was a EFI and a Turbo model which would probably be much better in both these areas. Overall, a very good car. Pity modern cars aren't made like this.. Owner for 22 years, 0 months Miles Driven per Year:6,000 Pros: Well made, lots of features, reliable, practical. Cons: Standard brakes aren't very good, underpowered, not very economical in traffic, bland styling. ![]() Looking for a Used 626 in your area?CarGurus has 27 nationwide 626 listings starting at $1,988. |
