The Mazda 626 was completely redesigned for 1998. The exterior was restyled to echo the higher-end Mazda Millennia, giving the 626 a more upscale look. The new 626 was also longer and wider, resulting in more trunk space. Both the four cylinder and the V6 engines gained some horsepower. The 626 was also given a stiffer chassis, which made for better handling and a quieter ride.
The 1998 Mazda 626 was available in four trim levels: the base DX, the midrange LX and LX V6, and the well-equipped ES V6. The standard engine was a 2.0-liter, 125 horsepower four cylinder. The V6 was 2.5 liters and had 170 horsepower. Fuel economy was about 22/29 for the base engine and 20/26 for the V6.
Drivers like the 1998 Mazda 626 because it is economical, yet stylish and fun to drive with a comfortable, roomy interior. Complaints include poor resale value and many problems with the transmission.

(23 reviews)What a great car. Try as I might, I cannot kill this car and believe me I've tried. I have had many cars and this is the longest I've ever had a daily driver as it just keeps going. It still has its original exhaust and battery, I've never changed any of the rear end bulbs at all. It eats luggage with ease and seats five in comfort and is economical for its size.
a great car absolutly fantastic its like a sports car but without the sports car insurance and it has only four cylinders and is lightweight so it gets great gas mileage everything about this car is just amazing if you want a really good car but for not too much definently consider a 626
In addition to getting great gas mileage, this is a very dependable, comfortable and stylish car. It has an all leather interior for comfort and durability. It handles well, shifts easily and so far has only required routine maintenance to keep it running smoothly. I took this car to Tennesse last year and had no problems at all.
this was my 2 car it was a good car lots of room nice to drive in till i crashed it on a wet day and hit a sower and broke the tirod wiich made it not worth fixing.
dependable, good power and gas mileage
