The 1997 Mazda 626 did not receive any major changes for the year, as a redesign was on the horizon for the following year. The 1997 Mazda 626 is available in four trims: the base DX, the midrange LX and LX V6, and the ES. The ES is the high-end version, coming well-equipped with amenities such as power seats and leather upholstery and the V6. The base engine is a 2.0-liter, 118-horsepower four cylinder. The V6 boasts 2.5 liters and 164 horsepower. Fuel economy for the base engine was 23/31, and for the V6 it was 20/26. Many 1997 Mazda 626 drivers like the car because it handles well, is fun to drive, has a comfortable interior, and gets reasonably good gas mileage. Some owners have had problems with flakey paint, and there is a lot of concern about the automatic transmission, which many say tend to fail at about 75 thousand miles.

This car is reliable. We have had no major problems with it. All it required was basic maintenance throughout the years. It starts fast and runs quiet. It handles well. The air conditioner in it works better than our other cars. The gas mileage is great 26 mpg in town, 32 hwy.

i am so cheap that i would gladly own this car again. perfect car for your teenage daughter. dependabe but boring. wont turn heads. very low cost of ownership and driving cost. i have to add that the body held up well in rusty PA. the trans is a little loose but probably needs a flush.

this car was awesome. I loved it and i miss it a lot. When i went to pass a car and the passing gear kicked in it sounded like a race car. Lots of leg and head room, which is important cause im really tall. great sounding stereo too. Very Nice car. i recomend to anyone.

my 626 is somewhat old but it looks good still and it has a decent ammount of kilometers for being a "97". i pimped it out as much as i could but there is no mods that you can buy online for this thing. its not really that fast either.

The manual tras. and 4 cylinder combined for over 30 mpg. Not much to look at but ran great. Rather trouble free up to 135,000 miles.
