First Car — My first car was a hand me down 78 Monza Station Wagon from my dad. It had a 4 speed stick shift and the V6 engine. I got rubber in 2nd gear often. It was fun to drive, but definitely a beater. It was sort of high for maintenance costs - the water pump went, the engine mounts went, the rear oil seal went, slowly - causing me to need at least one of two clutch replacements! Still, I had fun - the car sat and rode low, which was neat-o. I painted a big-ass blue rally stripe down the hood and rear deck. It was totaled when some jerk in a pick up truck ran a stop sign and pretty much tore the snoot off of the car. I have driven many better cars, but I miss the Monza - probably just onna counta it was my first! Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: 3.8L V6 had plenty of punch w. the 4 speed stick Cons: Station wagon model had tons of cargo space with the rear bench flipped down. ![]() Looking for a Used Monza in your area?CarGurus has 1 nationwide Monza listings and the tools to find you a great deal. |

Great! I Was The Only Person Ever In The Car! I Cant Remember Going Any/where — Ive owned so many cars,I wish sometimes that I had locked all the money i spent,in the bank somewhere.I would be a very wealty person now.I think gasoline was 38 cents a gallon, and unleaded gas had just previously hit the gas stations,we had just come out of gas rationing.Even and odd numbered license plates determined what day you could get gas.......and you couldnt cheat. They flew a RED FLAG one day and a GREEN FLAG the next Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: Nobody cared about fuel economy back then! Cons: It was a v6 unlike the 4cyl sunbird I had in 1979. |
