The Car From Uncle Buck Minus The Backfires And Smoke — I love the way this car runs and handles, for as old as it is the paint and body are amazing in my own opinion Very reliable Driven daily the only reason we are getting rid of this car is because with three kids under 7 we need a van or smaller car as a woman the motor is just too much for me

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: 460 big block
99,000 original miles
two owners
no rust holes dents or big cosmetic issues
mechanically sound

Cons: big engine
not a van

Everything Was Made Just Right Exept They Could Have Jazzed Up The Interior And Made Better Handles — 4700 lbs. 19 feet long the only thing unsolid on his car is the inside door handles it has a 6.6 liter 400 pushed the bumper in on a 87 astro van and my car still looks perfect like steering a boat 100% worth the gas mileage its the coupe paid $380 all it needs is an alternator 80k miles no rust on body :)originally wanted 1,200

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: smooth big solid and powerful

Cons: finding a parking space to fit in

Drove a 77 for 15 years in the late 80s to 90s. Called it my summer car, while I had a 77 LTD for winter. Both great and reliable, and they saved me thousands over new cars since I had no payments. Both tanks and each gave me 100K miles, but the Merc had it all over the LTD in lux features. Like leather, pwr seats and windows, plus more of a boulevard ride. Those were the days.

Power Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"460 V8 vs 350 Windsor V8. Both very smooth. Each gave me over 100K miles, even after being 10 years old and having over 100K miles."
Handling Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"They were about equal I guess. Each was safe as any SUV around too. Or truck either I spect."
Looks/Style Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"Bigger and had leather plus longer wheelbase gave a better ride"
Front Seats Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"Leather and 6 way power seats in the Merc. But the LTD was OK too.s"
Back Seats Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"Leather, but the LTD had high quality fabric seats. Both comfortable."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1977 Ford LTD worse.
"They are both humongous, and the edge might to the Merc."
Family Car Ranked 1977 Ford LTD better.
"Fewer features kids can spoil, or wreck in the LTD if youre not keeping an eye out."
Value Ranked 1977 Ford LTD better.
"The LTD was a bit cheaper to buy 10 years after being new, and fewer options to go wrong. Not that so many did go wrong, however. Both cars gave me 10 years of reliable transport with virtually no investment over $1000. I think its why I am still driving Fords and Mercs. (Present car: 2006 Grand Marquis LS)"
Would Buy Ranked 1977 Ford LTD better.
"At this stage I might not buy either. Come on, they are both over 40 years old. If I had the dough though, Id get me a fancy one of each off Ebay and store them in my oversize garage, (if I had one). My own little car museum!"
