1977 Ford LTDReview
Victor writes:

Hmmmmm — a lot of maintenance, very heavy (two tons) great classic muscle 350 v -8 engine, amazing condition, extreme comfort. gets poor gas milage, it has cruise control, loose steering, takes a bit to get used to but a lot of fun to drive.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: so you can drive a classic car

Cons: gas milage, maitenance

Drove one for 10 years in the 90s. Very tough, and reliable and safe. Does not have the luxuriousness of the Grand Marquis, but is plenty fine in its own right. A work horse, but refined enough for me.

1977 Ford LTD winning categories:
  • Power
  • Handling
  • Looks/Style
  • Front Seats
  • Back Seats
  • Cargo Capacity
  • Family Car
  • Value
  • Would Buy
Power Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"460 V8 vs 350 Windsor V8. Both very smooth. Each gave me over 100K miles, even after being 10 years old and having over 100K miles."
Handling Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"They were about equal I guess. Each was safe as any SUV around too. Or truck either I spect."
Looks/Style Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"Bigger and had leather plus longer wheelbase gave a better ride"
Front Seats Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"Leather and 6 way power seats in the Merc. But the LTD was OK too.s"
Back Seats Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"Leather, but the LTD had high quality fabric seats. Both comfortable."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis better.
"They are both humongous, and the edge might to the Merc."
Family Car Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis worse.
"Fewer features kids can spoil, or wreck in the LTD if youre not keeping an eye out."
Value Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis worse.
"The LTD was a bit cheaper to buy 10 years after being new, and fewer options to go wrong. Not that so many did go wrong, however. Both cars gave me 10 years of reliable transport with virtually no investment over $1000. I think its why I am still driving Fords and Mercs. (Present car: 2006 Grand Marquis LS)"
Would Buy Ranked 1977 Mercury Marquis worse.
"At this stage I might not buy either. Come on, they are both over 40 years old. If I had the dough though, Id get me a fancy one of each off Ebay and store them in my oversize garage, (if I had one). My own little car museum!"
