Reviews SummaryVolvo’s compact crossover SUV is rapidly aging, but buyers would never know when using the new Volvo Car UX infotainment system. Featuring a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen, Google Gemini integration, and an improved user experience, this SUV is technologically up-to-date. Adaptive cruise control is standard this year, and Volvo has also improved the wireless smartphone charger. Verdict: Are the changes to the 2026 Volvo XC60 enough to keep this compact crossover on shopping lists? Possibly not if safety is a top priority. Otherwise, this Volvo is an undeniably appealing, comfortable, and luxurious choice.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Volvo XC60 T5 Ultra was a testament to Scandinavian elegance and luxury. With its Forest Lake paint shimmering under the sun, the vehicle exuded a sophisticated charm. The 22-inch wheels and active air suspension added a commanding presence, while the interior was a sanctuary of minimalist design. Plush Nappa leather seats, premium wood trim, and metal speaker grilles created an ambiance of refined comfort. The Orrefors crystal shift knob and Bowers & Wilkins audio system further elevated the driving experience, making the XC60 Ultra a haven of tranquility and style.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue presented a more utilitarian aesthetic, with its compact dimensions and crossover-inspired design. The Venue's upright windshield and bluff nose gave it an SUV-like appearance, while the black wheel flares and roof rails added a rugged touch. Inside, the Venue's cabin was simple and functional, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen. The body-color trim around the air vents and shifter added a splash of personality, but the overall feel was more practical than luxurious.

The 2026 Volvo XC60 T5 was powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This power was channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels, aided by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Despite its modest power, the XC60 managed a respectable 0-60 mph time of 6.5 seconds. However, turbo lag and transmission hesitancy occasionally marred the driving experience. Fuel efficiency was slightly below expectations, with real-world figures falling short of the EPA's 26 mpg combined rating. The XC60's ride quality was generally smooth, though the 22-inch wheels impacted comfort. In terms of handling, the XC60 displayed grace and athleticism, though it wasn't a vehicle for driving enthusiasts.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, on the other hand, was equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing a modest 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This power was directed to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Venue's 0-60 mph time ranged from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds, aided by its lightweight construction. While peppy in city traffic, the Venue struggled at highway speeds, with the CVT's slurred shifts and engine drone detracting from the experience. Handling was nimble due to its compact size, but the ride could be jiggly on uneven surfaces.
The 2026 Volvo XC60 excelled in comfort, particularly with its luxurious front seats featuring heating, cooling, massage, and extending leg supports. Rear seat comfort was less impressive, with firm cushions and limited legroom. The XC60 offered a four-zone climate control system and a panoramic sunroof, enhancing the cabin's ambiance. Storage space was adequate, with 21.6 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats, expandable to 63.3 cubic feet with the seats folded.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue provided a more basic interior experience. Its cloth and H-Tex seats were comfortable, with manual adjustments and seat heating in the SEL models. Headroom was ample, but legroom was limited for taller occupants. The Venue's rear seats folded in a 60/40 split, offering 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space, though this was modest compared to larger crossovers. The Venue's interior materials reflected its budget-friendly nature, with hard plastics dominating the cabin.
The 2026 Volvo XC60 featured an updated infotainment system with an 11.2-inch touchscreen and Volvo Car UX software. It included a four-year subscription to Digital Services, offering Google built-in apps and remote services. While the system functioned well, some users found the interface less intuitive. The optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system provided exceptional sound quality, though it came at a premium.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's infotainment system was simpler, with an 8-inch touchscreen offering basic functionality. It lacked features like navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot but included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Venue's audio system was basic, with no premium option available.
The 2026 Volvo XC60 did not achieve a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS due to an Acceptable side-impact crash test rating. However, it boasted a comprehensive suite of safety features, including forward-collision warning and intersection braking assist. The XC60's driver-assistance tech, such as Pilot Assist, was less sophisticated than competitors, but it earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a solid array of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning and lane-keep assist. However, it lacked adaptive cruise control. The Venue received a four-star rating from the NHTSA, with some safety ratings still pending from the IIHS.
