The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe continued its legacy as a popular full-size SUV, maintaining its reputation for capability and practicality. Its design updates were subtle, with a new grille and lighting elements aligning it with other Chevy trucks. The Tahoe offered six trim levels, each catering to different preferences, from the no-frills LS to the luxurious High Country. The Z71 trim, which we tested, stood out with its off-road enhancements, including skid plates and all-terrain tires. Inside, the Tahoe featured a new 17.7-inch touchscreen and improved cabin aesthetics, with physical controls for key functions and a steering-column-mounted shifter replacing the previous electronic buttons.

The base 1958 model had a nostalgic look, while the higher-end Land Cruiser trim provided a more upscale appearance and additional off-roading features. Our test vehicle, equipped with the Premium Package, showcased a Heritage Blue exterior and a well-appointed interior with leather seats and advanced technology. Despite its utilitarian design, the Land Cruiser excelled in off-road capability, thanks to features like Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control. However, its limited color options and high load floor were notable drawbacks.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe offered a choice of two V8 engines and a diesel option. The 5.3-liter V8 delivered 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2-liter V8 provided 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine, a 3.0-liter inline-six, produced 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, offering the best fuel efficiency with up to 27 mpg on the highway. All engines were paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Tahoe's steering was surprisingly light, and it featured various suspension options, including Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride adaptive suspension, enhancing ride quality.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser featured Toyota's i-Force Max hybrid system, combining a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This setup produced 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, with a full-time 4WD system and a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. However, its handling on twisty roads was less impressive, with noticeable body roll and suspension tuning that prioritized comfort over agility.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe was designed for those needing to transport people and tow heavy loads. With the 5.3-liter V8 and Max Trailering package, it could tow up to 8,400 pounds. Cargo space was generous, with up to 122.9 cubic feet available with seats folded. However, with all seats in place, cargo space was limited to 25.5 cubic feet. The Tahoe offered a 24-inch wheel option, but it required Magnetic Ride Control for a smoother ride, adding to the cost.

The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser's interior featured SofTex artificial leather in the base model, with real leather available in the Premium Package. Front seats were comfortable, but the second row lacked support. The rear window design was less practical, and the center console's cool box reduced storage space. Cargo space was ample, with 46.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 82.1 cubic feet with seats folded. However, the high load floor made loading heavy items challenging.
