Reviews SummaryJeep’s midsize SUV gains something and loses something for the 2026 model year. A mild refresh brings a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid is no more. Styling changes outside, a bigger touchscreen inside, and a restructured lineup of trim levels round out the changes. Verdict: The turbo-four engine is impressive, but it can’t account for the lack of a hybrid powertrain, or the price tag for the best version of this grand dame of SUVs.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was classified as a crossover SUV, though its design leaned more towards a tall hatchback. It featured only front-wheel drive and had a ground clearance of 6.7 inches, which was higher than a typical car but not as tall as most crossover SUVs. The EPA classified it as a midsize car due to its interior space. The Venue's design was more crossover-like, with a small and narrow appearance reminiscent of European runabouts. Its upright windshield, bluff nose, and standard roof rails contributed to its SUV-like aesthetic. The Venue's high nose was complemented by lower headlights and high-set daytime running lights, while black wheel flares and a two-tone roof added flair. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional look, with a digital instrument cluster and a small touchscreen that resembled an iPad on the dash.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee maintained its handsome SUV design, with subtle updates to its headlights, grille, and lower front fascia. Despite being around since the 2021 model year, it continued to make a strong visual statement. The Grand Cherokee's thin grille and headlights, along with traditional Jeep trapezoidal wheel arches, gave it a substantial, wide-track look. Its proportions recalled classic Jeep models, and the shark-nose angle of the front end added to its distinctive appearance. The lineup was streamlined to three core trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit, each with unique wheel options and blackout treatments. Inside, the Grand Cherokee offered smarter materials and more equipment, especially in the upper trims, with options for cloth, leatherette, and genuine leather upholstery. Sunroof options were available, enhancing the interior experience.

The 2026 Hyundai Venue was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, producing a modest 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This power was delivered through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels, with no all-wheel drive option. The Venue's acceleration was not quick, with a 0-60 mph time ranging from 8.5 to 8.8 seconds, but its lightweight design at 2,738 pounds helped it feel peppy in city traffic. However, highway speeds revealed the limitations of its power, with the transmission slow to downshift for more thrust. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in traffic and fit into tight parking spots. The ride was generally comfortable, though the solid rear axle made it jiggly on rough roads.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee introduced the Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, offering 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, significantly more than the Wrangler's turbo-four. This engine was standard in all trims except the base Laredo and Laredo X, which retained the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 with 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions and offered rear-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive. The Hurricane 4 provided impressive power across a broad rpm range, making the Grand Cherokee feel quick and capable, with a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds. The Grand Cherokee's driving experience remained truck-like, with lazy steering and a suspension that absorbed road imperfections well. Off-road capability varied by trim, with the top Summit trim offering advanced 4WD systems and air suspension.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and H-Tex seats with black upholstery and white contrast stitching, providing a sporty appearance. The seats were comfortable, with six-way manual adjustments, and seat heating was available in SEL models. While headroom was ample, legroom was limited for taller occupants. The rear seat offered just enough space for average-sized adults, but taller passengers would struggle for legroom. The rear seats folded flat in a 60/40 split, providing 31.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which was modest compared to typical compact crossovers. The Venue's interior was dominated by hard black plastic, with limited soft-touch surfaces.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee offered two rows and five seats in the standard model, with a three-row Grand Cherokee L available. Front headroom was competitive, but legroom was less generous compared to some rivals. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel were available on higher trims, with ventilation and massagers offered on the Summit. The second row provided standard heated seats on Limited and higher trims, but legroom was limited compared to competitors. Two-row models had 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, expanding to 70.8 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Grand Cherokee L offered less cargo space compared to other three-row SUVs. The interior featured practical storage options, though the rotary shifter and drive-mode selector were not especially practical.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment features. While it felt small by modern standards, it was functional and responsive, offering phone, radio, media, and phone-projection connections. It lacked features like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were included. The audio system was a simple six-speaker unit, with no premium options available.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee offered a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen on Laredo Altitude and higher trims, while Laredo and Laredo X had a 10.2-inch screen. All trims featured a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The audio systems ranged from a six-speaker setup on the Laredo to a 19-speaker McIntosh system on the Summit. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system provided wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with Off-Road Pages for off-road enthusiasts. The Grand Cherokee also offered a surround-view camera system with night vision and a low-angle off-road camera, enhancing its off-road capabilities.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, and a rear-occupant warning. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert were available on all but the base SE trim. However, adaptive cruise control was not offered. The Venue received a four-star safety rating from the NHTSA, with top "Good" scores in some IIHS tests, but full ratings were not available.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee came with standard driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors were also standard. Active Drive Assist, a hands-free highway driving system, was available on higher trims. While crash-test ratings for the 2026 model were not available, the 2025 model received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
