Reviews SummaryThe Suburban carries the longest-running nameplate in the auto industry, tracing back to 1935, and in 2026 the Chevrolet dominates the full-size SUV segment. A new Polar White Tricoat color, standard 22-inch wheels, and an available RST Dark Essentials Package refresh the exterior, but the mechanical story is identical to last year's. As they say, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. Verdict: Shoppers who need class-leading cargo space and towing capability should look past the sticker-price increase and keep the Suburban at the top of their full-size SUV shortlist.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban continued to uphold its legacy as a dominant force in the SUV segment. With its roots tracing back to 1935, the Suburban maintained its iconic status by introducing subtle yet impactful cosmetic updates for 2026. The addition of a new Polar White Tricoat paint option, 22-inch bright split-spoke wheels, and the RST Dark Essentials Package with 24-inch black wheels and black accents provided a fresh look without altering its driving dynamics. The Suburban's imposing length of 226.3 inches made it a standout on the road, offering a commanding presence that was both a blessing and a challenge in urban settings. Despite its size, the Suburban managed to deliver a composed driving experience, especially on open roads, where its length felt less cumbersome.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue presented itself as a compact and practical option, blurring the lines between a crossover SUV and a tall hatchback. Its design leaned more towards a crossover with SUV-like cues such as a bluff nose, roof rails, and black wheel flares. The Venue's compact dimensions, measuring 159.1 inches in length, made it an agile choice for city driving, easily maneuvering through traffic and fitting into tight parking spaces. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional layout, with a digital instrument cluster and body-color trim accents. However, the use of hard black plastic throughout the cabin highlighted its budget-friendly nature, while the limited rear legroom and modest cargo space underscored its compact size.

The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban offered a robust performance lineup, staying true to its truck-based roots. The standard 5.3-liter V8 engine produced 355 horsepower, providing ample power for a vehicle of its size. For those seeking more muscle, a 6.2-liter V8 delivered 420 horsepower, while a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine offered impressive fuel efficiency with up to 27 mpg on the highway. The Suburban's towing capacity reached up to 8,400 pounds with the Max Towing Package, making it a formidable choice for hauling trailers, boats, or campers. All engines were paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which generally shifted smoothly, though occasional gear indecision was noted on steep inclines. The Suburban's size required careful planning in tight spaces, but its composed highway ride and quiet diesel engine made it a standout in its segment.
In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Venue's performance was modest, powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 121 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque. The Venue's lightweight construction, weighing in at 2,738 pounds, allowed it to keep up with city traffic, but its performance lagged at highway speeds. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) contributed to a sluggish response when more power was needed, and the engine's noise became noticeable under heavy throttle. Despite its limited power, the Venue's small size and low weight provided nimble handling, making it easy to navigate through urban environments. However, the Venue's ride quality was affected by its solid rear axle, resulting in a jiggly experience on uneven surfaces.
The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban excelled in interior space and versatility, offering 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 93.8 cubic feet with the third row folded, and a cavernous 144.5 cubic feet with all seats down. This made it a top choice for families needing ample cargo capacity. The Suburban could seat up to nine passengers with a front bench seat option, while captain's chairs in the second row enhanced comfort and accessibility to the third row. The generous third-row legroom and power-folding third row on higher trims added to its practicality, making it a compelling option for those prioritizing space and flexibility.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, on the other hand, offered a more compact interior with cloth and H-Tex seats providing adequate comfort. The Venue's front seats lacked power adjustments, but seat heating in the SEL models was a welcome feature. Rear legroom was limited, especially for taller passengers, and the rear seat could accommodate two adults comfortably, though three would be a tight fit. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 31.9 cubic feet with the seats folded. The lack of sound deadening in the cargo area highlighted cost-cutting measures, while the use of hard plastics throughout the cabin reinforced its budget-friendly positioning.
The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban featured a standout 17.7-inch touchscreen, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Google Built-In for seamless integration. An 11-inch driver information display and an available head-up display provided additional information for the driver. While adaptive cruise control was standard, the advanced Super Cruise system was reserved for higher trims, limiting its availability. The Suburban's tech offerings were robust, though the absence of Super Cruise on lower trims was a notable limitation.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue came equipped with a basic 8-inch touchscreen, offering essential infotainment features such as phone connectivity, media controls, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, it lacked advanced features like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Venue's audio system was a simple six-speaker setup, with no premium option available. While the Venue's tech offerings were adequate for its price point, they fell short of the more advanced systems found in higher-end vehicles.
The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban received a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not published updated crash-test results. The Suburban offered a comprehensive suite of standard driver-assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian and bicycle detection, and a surround-view camera system. Trailer sway control was also standard, catering to the Suburban's towing capabilities. However, the availability of advanced features like Super Cruise varied by trim, requiring careful consideration by potential buyers.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue provided a solid set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver-attention monitor. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert were available on all but the base SE trim. The Venue received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with the IIHS providing limited ratings at the time of writing. While the Venue's safety systems performed well during testing, the driver attention monitor was overly sensitive, and the Venue's safety ratings were not as high as some competitors.
