Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

The all-new C-Class launches in C300 sedan form with standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), optional 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD), and Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle trim levels. Our test car was a C300 4Matic in the top Pinnacle trim. An AMG C43 performance model is also on the way, but it’s not expected to hit showrooms until after the C300, which arrives at dealerships later this spring.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class presented a stylish exterior that seamlessly integrated design elements from other Mercedes models. Its front end mirrored the CLA-Class with a distinctive droop, while the rear end and thin taillights were reminiscent of the S-Class. The result was a cohesive and recognizable Mercedes design, highlighted by a prominent grille featuring a large three-pointed star logo. The cab-rearward proportions, with a long hood and short rear deck, emphasized its rear-wheel-drive platform, setting it apart from the front-wheel-drive CLA-Class and A-Class. Standard LED headlights and taillights could be upgraded to the Digital Light system, which offered adaptive lighting features. Inside, the C-Class aimed to emulate the luxury of the S-Class with features like a freestanding touchscreen, intricate speaker grilles, and ambient lighting. Despite its luxury aspirations, the standard MBTex synthetic leather upholstery was a reminder of its price range, though Nappa leather was available on higher trims.

The 2026 Audi A6, while handsome, did not make a striking visual impression. Its design featured a lower, more pronounced "singleframe" grille and fender flares inspired by the Quattro rally car. The LED headlights offered a pixelated effect with programmable signatures, and the taillights were repositioned to accommodate programmable lights for different icons. The A6 was available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, with the S Line Black Optic Package adding sportier elements. The interior offered an Audi Exclusive Design Package with two-tone Nappa leather seats, but the overall materials felt bland and cheap, even in the top-spec Prestige models. The A6's design was more subdued compared to competitors like the Cadillac CT5 and BMW 5 Series, and it lacked the illuminated flair of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the C300 model, producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It was paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which added up to 20 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque in short bursts. The C300 could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph. A sportier Mercedes-AMG C43 version offered a more powerful 402 hp engine, reducing the zero to 60 mph time to 4.6 seconds and increasing the top speed to 155 mph. The C300 4Matic test car delivered sufficient power, but experienced turbo lag and occasional rough shifts. Despite these issues, the ride quality was luxurious, with muted impacts from road imperfections. The C-Class demonstrated good body control and precise steering on twisty roads, though it required deliberate effort to handle corners.
