2022 Land Rover Range Rover Reviews Summary

The iconic Range Rover receives a redesign for 2022, though from the outside the changes can be easy to miss. The interior has been updated with a simpler design and a notable improvement in technology. If you have the budget and desire for a large premium luxury SUV, perhaps with some off-road capabilities, you should start your search here.

2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

Look and feel

2022 Land Rover Range Rover

8/10

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover underwent a subtle evolution rather than a complete redesign. Its front and side profiles closely resembled the previous generation, with a broad, rounded face and large, unadorned sheet metal. A vertical accent strip under the mirrors distinguished the new model from its predecessor. The rear view saw the most significant change, with thin LED strips replacing the old square taillights, integrated into a darker trim element. The Range Rover emphasized its size, especially in the long-wheelbase version, which added eight inches in length. Inside, the Range Rover featured a simplified design with fewer buttons and a larger tablet-like touchscreen, enhancing its modern look. Premium leather and rich wood trim elements adorned the interior, exuding luxury. The Range Rover's solid feel and absence of creaks, even on rough roads, impressed, offering a refined interior that rivaled more expensive alternatives like Maybach or Bentley.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 shared stylistic connections with the G70 compact luxury sedan, particularly above the belt-line. Its split-bar headlights and strong chrome line visually linked it to its sedan counterpart. The GV70's interior was a testament to Genesis's luxury credentials, featuring top-notch materials and excellent fit and finish. The design was both contemporary and classic, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen rising organically from the dash. The GV70's dash included a full touchscreen, a rotary dial, and helpful button controls. The gas-powered GV70 offered two trims, the 2.5T and 3.5T, while the Electrified GV70 had Advance and Prestige trims. The GV70's interior boasted features like power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and a hands-free power liftgate. The Electrified Prestige trim impressed with its luxury credentials, featuring cream-colored seats with a quilt stitch pattern and a high-contrast design.

2023 Genesis GV70

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover offered two powertrains. The base P400 featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid component, producing 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The P530 upgrade boasted a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine, delivering 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive. The P400 powertrain provided effortless acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, impressive for an SUV weighing nearly 6,000 pounds. The Range Rover's handling was surprisingly agile, with well-managed body roll, enhancing confidence on winding roads. Standard rear-wheel-steering improved maneuverability, making it easy to navigate tight spaces. The Range Rover excelled off-road, thanks to its Terrain Response system, which optimized traction. Despite its size, the Range Rover offered a smooth ride, with minimal wind and road noise, making it one of the most comfortable luxury SUVs.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 2.5T came with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5T featured a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The turbo-four provided ample power for most driving situations, while the V6 offered extra grunt and a throaty engine note. The GV70 balanced comfort and sharp handling, delivering a refined driving experience. The Electrified GV70 used a 77.4-kWh battery pack, powering two electric motors in an AWD setup, producing 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. A Boost button increased output to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds. The electric GV70 had a range of 236 miles and could charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes on a fast charger. The GV70 Electrified offered well-rounded handling, leaning slightly towards comfort.

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover provided ample space in the first two rows, enhanced by large windows and a panoramic sunroof. Front seats were generously cushioned, with available massage functions offering a shiatsu-like treatment. Storage options included two glove boxes, a wireless charging pad, and a large center console bin. The second row offered power recline and sliding adjustments, with climate controls, sunshades, and USB-C ports. The optional third row was accessible with a button, though headroom was limited for adults. Cargo space behind the third row was 17.1 cubic feet, expanding to 43.1 cubic feet with the third row folded, and up to 93 cubic feet with the second row down. A split tailgate and air suspension height adjustment aided loading.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 28.9 cubic feet with them in use. It featured a hands-free power liftgate. The GV70's front seats were comfortable, with decently large cupholders and a center console tray. Rear legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to adjust their seats. The rear bench reclined for added comfort.
