2022 Land Rover Range Rover Reviews Summary

The iconic Range Rover receives a redesign for 2022, though from the outside the changes can be easy to miss. The interior has been updated with a simpler design and a notable improvement in technology. If you have the budget and desire for a large premium luxury SUV, perhaps with some off-road capabilities, you should start your search here.

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer Reviews Summary

Few automotive nameplates have kept pace with changing market trends like the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which has taken on three very different forms over a relatively short time span.

The Trailblazer name first appeared in 1999 on an appearance package for the S-10 Blazer, a compact SUV derived from the Chevy S-10 pickup truck. Chevy then applied the Trailblazer name to a midsize SUV sold during model years 2002 through 2009. While not based on a pickup truck, this Trailblazer had the hallmarks of an old-school SUV, including body-on-frame construction and available V8 power.

Today’s Chevy Trailblazer has nothing in common with those predecessors except a name. Introduced for the 2021 model year, this Trailblazer is a subcompact crossover with car-like unibody construction shared with the Buick Encore GX, and tiny, efficiency-focused engines. With the Chevy Trax on hiatus until the 2024 model year, the Trailblazer is Chevy’s entry-level SUV for 2023, competing with the likes of the Hyundai Kona and Kia Seltos.

The only changes for 2023 are some new extra-cost paint colors, including Nitro Yellow Metallic, Fountain Blue, and Sterling Gray Metallic, along with an Iridescent Pearl Tricoat roof. Trim levels start with the base LS, and continue with the LT, Activ, and RS. We tested a Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ for this review.

Look and feel

2022 Land Rover Range Rover

8/10

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer

9/10

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover underwent a subtle evolution rather than a complete redesign. Its front and side profiles closely resembled the previous generation, with broad, rounded features and minimalistic sheet metal. A notable change was the vertical accent strip under the mirrors, replacing the old L-shaped trim. The rear saw the most significant update, with thin LED strips integrated into darker trim, replacing the square taillights. The interior was simplified, featuring a larger touchscreen and fewer buttons, while maintaining a luxurious feel with premium leather and rich wood trim. The Range Rover exuded a sense of premium luxury, rivaling high-end alternatives like Maybach and Bentley.

The 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer presented a compact yet substantial SUV design, reminiscent of the larger Blazer. It balanced toughness with upscale details like intricate lighting elements and dark chrome trim. The Activ and RS models offered unique styling, with the Activ featuring a rugged look and the RS sporting a sportier appearance. The Trailblazer's interior combined leatherette upholstery with distinctive design touches, providing a comfortable yet stylish cabin. Despite its compact size, the Trailblazer managed to offer a spacious feel, with clever use of contrasting roofs and a mix of colors and textures.

Performance

2022 Land Rover Range Rover

7/10

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer

7/10

The 2022 Range Rover offered two powertrains: a base P400 with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six producing 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, and an upgraded P530 with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 delivering 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4WD. The P400 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, impressive for its nearly 6,000-pound weight. The Range Rover handled surprisingly well for its size, with agile cornering and a smooth ride, aided by rear-wheel steering and the Terrain Response system for off-road capability.

The 2023 Trailblazer shared its platform with the Buick Encore GX, featuring a standard 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, and an optional 1.3-liter turbo-three with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft. The 1.2-liter engine was FWD only, while the 1.3-liter offered AWD. The Trailblazer Activ model, with AWD and a nine-speed automatic, provided a decent driving experience, though the transmission showed some rough shifts. The Trailblazer's ride quality was generally good, with dampers tuned for gravel roads, but it exhibited typical body roll for a high-riding vehicle.

Form and function

2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer

7/10

The 2022 Range Rover boasted ample space in the first two rows, enhanced by large windows and a panoramic sunroof. Front seats offered long-distance comfort with massage functions, while the second row provided power recline and sliding adjustments. The optional third row was less spacious, suitable for smaller passengers. Cargo space was limited to 17.1 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 93 cubic feet with seats folded. The split tailgate and adjustable air suspension facilitated loading and unloading.

The 2023 Trailblazer, though compact, offered decent utility with generous headroom and mid-pack legroom. Its 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space expanded to 54.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Trailblazer's interior featured clever storage solutions, including a covered bin, deep tray, and cupholders. However, its towing capacity was limited to 1,000 pounds, and rear seat comfort was less ideal for long trips.

Technology

The 2022 Range Rover featured a 13-inch touchscreen with the new Pivi Pro infotainment system, offering sharp graphics and quick responses. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, complemented by a wireless charging pad. The Meridian audio system provided excellent sound quality, with an optional 35-speaker upgrade. Additional tech included Amazon Alexa integration, remote parking, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The 2023 Trailblazer came with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An optional 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and Bose audio system were available. The Trailblazer's tech setup was adequate for most users, with logical menus and easy-to-read graphics, though it lacked a fully digital instrument cluster.

The 2022 Range Rover included standard safety features like frontal collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view camera system. While crash test results were unavailable, the Range Rover's safety features performed well, though some rivals offered more advanced options.

The 2023 Trailblazer was a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. Standard safety features included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. Optional features like blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control enhanced its safety profile.
