The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was a testament to Jeep's commitment to blending heritage with modernity. The iconic seven-slot grille, a hallmark of Jeep's design, returned with active shutters to enhance aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. The Grand Cherokee 4xe was available only as a two-row, five-passenger SUV, with trim levels including the base 4xe, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. The Overland trim, in particular, featured luxurious touches like leather seats, wood and metal accents, and heated and ventilated front seats. However, the interior had an abundance of hard plastic materials, which raised concerns about durability and noise over time.

In contrast, the 2022 Nissan Rogue continued its evolution with a mature and sophisticated design. The exterior featured Nissan's V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a floating roof illusion. Inside, the Rogue boasted a layered dash design with contrasting colors and surfaces, an electronic gear selector lever, and ample storage options. The Zero Gravity bucket-style front seats and roomy second row provided comfort, while the fit and finish, especially in the Platinum model, were exemplary. The Rogue's interior was designed with practicality and comfort in mind, making it a strong contender in the compact crossover segment.

However, once the battery was depleted, the fuel efficiency dropped to 23 mpg. The vehicle also included regenerative braking and various E Select powertrain modes, enhancing its versatility. Despite its fuel efficiency, the 4xe's towing capacity was limited to 6,000 pounds, less than its V6 and V8 counterparts.

Folding the second row expanded the cargo space from 37.7 cubic feet to 70.8 cubic feet. The air suspension's quick-down function facilitated easy loading and unloading. Despite the hot Texas weather during testing, the standard heated steering wheel was a notable feature for colder climates.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue excelled in interior space and storage options. The front cabin featured numerous storage compartments, including bottle holders, cupholders, a glove compartment, a center console bin, and more. Rear-seat passengers had access to storage in the doors, seatbacks, and center armrest, along with USB-A and USB-C ports. The second-row seat was a 60/40 split reclining bench.
