2020 Jeep Wrangler Reviews Summary

It’s hard to find a car with better brand recognition than Jeep's Wrangler. It is an American 4x4 icon, with military roots and millions of miles of trails traversed. As awesome as Jeeps are, they require one caveat: They are not very efficient. This has become more glaring as the rest of the industry works to improve fuel economy. Jeep has made incremental improvements in the past several years, with mild hybrids and turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, but these setups still don‘t get much better than V8-level fuel economy.

So for 2020, Jeep offers a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited. Read on to learn if this new engine actually improves the Wrangler’s fuel economy. And if not, does the Wrangler Unlimited do other things well enough to make up for its fuel thirstiness?

8/10

2020 Acura MDX

8/10
CarGurus experts rate the 2020 Jeep Wrangler 8 out of 10 and the 2020 Acura MDX 6 out of 10 in terms of look and feel. The Jeep Wrangler's iconic design includes circular headlights, a seven-slat grille, and a boxy silhouette, complemented by its unmistakable industrial charm. Its interior boasts a retro aesthetic with circular vents and gauges, emphasizing utility over flow. The Wrangler Unlimited offers various trims from the basic Sport to the off-road-ready Rubicon, each adding a level of comfort or ruggedness to the experience. Conversely, the Acura MDX presents a sleeker, more conventional luxury crossover appeal. Its LED "Jewel Eye" headlights and streamlined profile convey modernity, while its interior focuses on simplicity and functionality without excessive opulence. Though it may not stand out in a parking lot for groundbreaking style, the MDX offers a polished, contemporary look both inside and out.

Performance

2020 Jeep Wrangler

9/10

2020 Acura MDX

6/10
On performance, the Wrangler and the MDX are rated 9 and 6 out of 10, respectively. The Wrangler Unlimited shines with a variety of engines, including a base V6, a turbocharged 4-cylinder, and a new turbodiesel, offering a mix of power and efficiency, especially off-road. Its unique driving dynamics and off-road capabilities define its appeal, despite some on-road shortcomings like road noise and a rough ride compared to car-based SUVs. The MDX, equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 or a hybrid powertrain, balances power with refinement. Its SH-AWD system and torque-vectoring improve handling and performance, making it surprisingly nimble for a three-row SUV. The MDX provides a comfortable and capable ride, showcasing Acura's focus on combining performance with luxury.

2020 Acura MDX

7/10
When it comes to functionality, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler and the 2020 Acura MDX serve different purposes, which is reflected in their design and utility features. The Wrangler, with its off-road prowess, provides a distinct approach to form and function. It is available in two configurations: the two-door standard Wrangler and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited. The Wrangler Unlimited offers about 72 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear bench flattened, highlighting its utility aspect despite being less than what some more conventional SUVs offer. On the other side, the Acura MDX is designed with family and luxury in mind, showcasing its functionality through a comfortable and spacious interior. It features sliding and reclining second-row seats for easy access to the third row, optimizing passenger space and comfort. Cargo capacity stands at 15.8 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to 43.4 cubic feet with the third row folded down, and reaching a generous 90.9 cubic feet with both the second and third rows flat. This makes the MDX a leading choice for those requiring storage space alongside luxury amenities. Moreover, the MDX enriches the driving experience with tri-zone climate control and thoughtful storage solutions throughout the cabin, ensuring that every passenger enjoys comfort and convenience. Its design smartly integrates functionality with elegance, making it a stylish alternative to traditional family vehicles.
