2020 Honda Civic Hatchback Reviews Summary

When the Honda Civic first went on sale in the US in 1973, it was a tiny 3-door hatchback capitalizing on concerns arising out of the OPEC Oil Embargo. In other words, it was a safe and smart choice during a period of unrest and uncertainty. Eventually though, years after oil pipelines once again gushed with plentiful crude, hatchbacks became synonymous with economic despair. Judgmental types assumed you couldn’t afford anything better, and soon few people wanted them anymore. Today, hatchbacks are making comebacks, and the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback is a good example of why.

2021 Honda Accord Reviews Summary

For the 2021 model year, Honda is taking the Accord in a more elevated direction. The company has refined the Accord’s features list, added a trim level, and priced it right to compete against other heavyweights in the industry. Honda has made safety a priority in the 2021 Accord, helping this fresh version earn high praise.

Look and feel
2020 Honda Civic Hatchback

2021 Honda Accord
7/10
When the Honda Civic first debuted in the U.S. in 1973, it was a modest 3-door hatchback responding to the energy crises of the time, representing a prudent choice amidst economic uncertainties. This initial model set the stage for the Civic's evolution into a beloved compact car. The 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback exemplified this legacy's modern incarnation, revitalizing the hatchback format with contemporary appeal and efficiency. In contrast, the 2021 Honda Accord embarks on a more upscale journey, enhancing its feature set, adding a new trim level, and positioning itself competitively in the midsize sedan market. With a focus on safety and refinement, the 2021 Accord aims to elevate the driving experience, garnering acclaim for its comprehensive approach to passenger protection and comfort.
Performance

2021 Honda Accord
9/10
Performance ratings from CarGurus place both the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback and the 2021 Honda Accord at 9 out of 10. The Civic Hatchback's turbocharged 1.5-liter engine offers sufficient power and fuel efficiency, with a more relaxed driving experience compared to the sportier Civic Si. It excels in providing a balance between everyday usability and the potential for spirited driving. The Accord's engine lineup includes a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter and an optional 2.0-liter turbo-four, the latter delivering more robust performance. Despite the lack of all-wheel drive, both engines perform admirably, with the Accord achieving commendable fuel economy and smooth acceleration. The 2021 model year enhancements also improve braking and handling, further solidifying the Accord's appeal as a comfortable yet engaging family sedan.
Form and function
2020 Honda Civic Hatchback
8/10
2021 Honda Accord
9/10
In terms of form and function, the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback and the 2021 Honda Accord each bring their own strengths to the table, reflected in their CarGurus ratings of 8 out of 10 and 9 out of 10, respectively. The Civic Hatchback, despite being a compact car, offers a commendable cargo capacity of 25.2 cubic feet, surpassing that of the comparably sized and equipped HR-V Touring by 2 cubic feet. This makes the Civic Hatchback not only a practical choice for those valuing efficiency and maneuverability but also for those who need a reasonable amount of cargo space without stepping up to an SUV. The Accord, designed with daily usability in mind, balances stylishness with practicality. It comfortably accommodates five adults, providing ample headroom, hip room, and legroom, making it a solid choice for families or those requiring more passenger space. The Accord excels with its cargo capacity as well, offering 16.7 cubic feet in the trunk, which is on the higher end for the midsize sedan segment. This generous trunk space, combined with the 60/40 split rear seats, enhances the Accord's versatility, allowing for more significant cargo when needed, without sacrificing seating.

Nevertheless, it offers smart convenience features like Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock. The Accord sets a high standard with its 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is intuitive and packed with connectivity options, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in higher trims. The inclusion of a wide array of technological amenities, such as a head-up display in the Touring 2.0T model, underscores Honda's commitment to integrating advanced technology across its lineup.

Conversely, the Accord's safety credentials are robust, featuring an extensive array of driver-assist technologies as standard.
