For 2020, the Volvo S60 gets a new trim. The S60 faces competition from rivals like the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The S60 embodies the evolution of Volvo’s styling. While not sporty like other vehicles in its category, it is bold and graceful, with distinctive lighting that hints at the high-tech features inside. The Polestar Engineered trim gets an exclusive wheel design, gloss black exterior trim, gold brake calipers, and Polestar emblems.
The S60 comes in Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, and Polestar Engineered trims. Standard features in the Momentum include LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, navigation, and a power driver’s seat. Options include keyless entry and a hands-free trunk. The R-Design adds sporty styling with the option of heated front seats and a head-up display (HUD). Move up to the Inscription for leather upholstery, massaging seats, and power-adjustable side bolsters. The Polestar Engineered trim adds a black color scheme, Nappa leather, and gold seatbelts.
The S60’s three powertrains, T5, T6, and T8, carry over. The T5 features a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated for 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The T6 adds a supercharger to the mix, boosting output to 316 hp and 295 lb-ft. The T8, a plug-in hybrid with electric motors, makes 400 hp and 472 lb-ft. The Polestar Engineered trim gets an engine based on the T8, making 415 hp and 494 lb-ft. All engines match up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard for the T5 and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. For the T6 and T8, AWD comes standard. When it comes to fuel economy, the base T5 FWD offers 23 mpg city, 34 highway, and 27 combined. The T8 returns 74 MPGe or 31 mpg combined.
For technology, the S60 gets a 9-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Options include a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, and audio upgrades.
While the 2020 S60 has not yet been crash-tested, the 2019 S60 earned Good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It has not yet been crash-tested by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The S60 includes a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, and run-off-road mitigation.
The S60, including the Polestar Engineered trim, offers an excellent option for shoppers.
