The Mitsubishi Mirage lineup, which dates back to 2014, has a lot to offer, but there are always compromises when buying a car this small. The 2019 G4 sedan carries over with a few new features to help improve its overall value.
The Mirage G4’s exterior is basic, with available fog lamps and 15-inch 2-tone alloy wheels. Regardless of trim or body style, every Mirage gets the same engine, a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder rated for 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard with transmission choices of a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The EPA ratings for fuel economy are 33 mpg city, 40 highway, and 35 combined with the manual. The CVT increases those numbers to 35 city, 41 highway, and 37 combined.
The Mirage G4 is available in two trims, ES and SE. For 2019, the base trim gets standard cruise control, driver’s seat height adjustment, and silver seat stitching. The SE trim gets a center armrest and push-button start. Trims equipped with the CVT gearbox can add remote start.
Standard features on the ES include a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a multi-function steering wheel with audio controls. A Display Audio head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard on the SE trim and a Rockford Fosgate premium audio system is available.
While the hatchback version of the Mirage earned a 4-star review from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2018 Mirage G4 hasn’t been tested. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) results show a few Good scores, an Acceptable for side impact, and a Marginal for driver-side small-overlap front crash. A reversing camera comes standard, but the only safety option available is front and rear parking sensors.
The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has made a lot of headway since its debut, making it an appealing option for someone who wants decent features for a low price. Shoppers should also consider the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Versa.
