About 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Mitsubishi has mostly tried to move away from its budget-car roots, with SUVs that offer great tech and refined drivetrains. The new Outlander, for example, shares parts and engineering with the Nissan Rogue, but it takes the Rogue’s formula to the next level with an upscale interior and standout design. On the other side of the Mitsubishi catalog, the Mirage and Mirage G4 are ultra-cheap, ultra-small cars that prioritize value over almost everything else. The hatchback Mirage and Sedan G4 got a new Black Edition trim for 2022 and a few other small improvements, but the model remains largely the same it’s always been. The 2022 Mirage G4 is available in ES, LE, Black Edition, and SE trims. To be clear, the Mirage G4 is not substantially different from its hatchback cousin. It gets the same features and options, but with the traditional sedan body style for folks who don’t love hatchbacks. Inside, there are plenty of cheap-ish materials, exposed bolts and metal connectors, and an overall feeling of cost cutting. That’s to be expected in a car from the Mirage G4’s price range, and it’s important to note that none of the low-rent gear changes the G4’s driving experience. All Mirage G4s come with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. The diminutive powerplant makes 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque, which reaches the front wheels through either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. Though the G4 is decent at in-town speeds, it struggles to reach and sustain highway speeds, and executing a pass requires planning. Because it’s so small, the car reacts to wind and turbulence from other cars in a way that larger vehicles do not. Mitsubishi gives every model a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which many much more expensive cars lack. The car is available with a Rockford Fosgate stereo, but both the standard and optional audio systems struggle to overcome the Mirage G4’s cabin noise levels. Neither version of the Mirage earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but crash test scores are decent. The car earned a “Marginal” rating for its small overlap front driver-side crash testing but picked up “Good” scores in all other areas. Mitsubishi equips every Mirage with forward-collision warnings and pedestrian detection, and lane-departure alerts are available. Mitsubishi is one of a handful of automakers that offer long warranties on vehicles, stretching to ten years or 100,000 miles for the powertrain and five years/60,000 miles for everything else. That coverage is similar to the warranties provided by Kia and Hyundai. The 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is on sale now. It starts at $16,995 for the base ES model, $18,945 for the LE, $19,545 for the Black Edition, and $20,045 for the top SE trim.
